Late week announcement made
Intel made a surprise announcement on Friday that it was basically canceling the current version of the Larrabee project, the discrete GPU that Intel has been talking about since early 2007. While the project lives on and the team continues to push for many-core x86 designs for GPUs in the future, it looks like that just got a whole lot later.

As GPUs learn how to do more and more things it is almost a waste to let it idle now. If you aren't gaming then you can get Folding@Home to use those spare cycles, but there is more that it can do. The recent release of Flash 10 sees the introduction of a Flash player that can utilize the GPU as oppose to your overworked CPU. Now Benchmark Reviews wants to ensure that your movie playback, either SD or HD, takes advantage of that expensive GPU in your system to ensure smooth playback.

NVIDIA has another new GPU to share with the world, this time in the form of the GeForce GT 240. While this new offering is not intended for the high end gaming market at all, it does offer some decent graphics performance for a card priced around $100. But can it even keep pace with current cards at the same cost??

Microsoft had a hope that DX10 would convince masses of gamers to migrate from WinXP to Vista. Unfortunately, a better dynamic lighting range and slightly improved textures just wasn't enough to convince gamers to upgrade en mass. Part of that was hardware support but mostly it was the poor implementation of features into games, there was not a huge difference. What could possibly be better than an HD5970? An HD 5970 overclocked from 725 MHz to 935 MHz on the core and from 4000MHz to 5240 MHz
