The love of mechanical keyboards is a secret bond that most “normal” people can’t understand. Indeed, those who find the clickity-clack of mechanical keys to be as relaxing as a gentle spring rain seem to be a special breed of geek who is sometimes misunderstood even by fellow enthusiasts. As a result, some geeks have had to choose between the happiness of their fingertips and the happiness of their family or co-workers. In most cases, the later wins.

Today's mini ITX motherboards are slowing starting to support quad-core CPUs, advanced chipsets, and PCIe 2.0 graphics cards, but only a few vendors are actually taking advantage of it. Gigabyte jumped on the mini ITX train and suited up the H55N-USB3 with support for today's latest LGA 1156 processors, USB 3.0, and DDR3 memory. It should be interesting to see how this board fairs against other form factors that use the same chipset.

The question of whether the M101z is really a netbook or laptop is certainly open. Its size, price and performance makes it difficult to categorize. Given the uncertainty, I will bow to Dell’s marketing department – they’ve made the M101z a part of the Dell Inspiron laptop line rather than a part of the Dell Mini netbook line.

2.5 and 3.0 TB is here! Western Digital has pushed internal 3.5" drive capacity to 3 TB, breaking past the 2 TB barrier. Pushing platter density to 750 GB is quite an achievement, but taking a single HDD past 2^32 available sectors introduces some serious compatibility issues at both the OS and driver level.

Entering the Nile

Earlier this year AMD released big news: 135 new design wins with major manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell HP, Lenovo, Toshiba and more. These victories are a badly needed boost for AMD, which has been trailing Intel in the mobile space for years. These many of these new designs are based on a new platform AMD is calling Nile - and the Toshiba T235 is among the first Nile notebooks to hit the market.
