Samsung 470 Series 256GB SSD Full Review

Subject: Storage
Manufacturer: Samsung SSD

Introduction and Specifications

Samsung recently introduced their newest generation SSD line, dubbed the '470 Series'. We hadn't received any drives direct from Samsung in the past, so after some reaching out, we obtained a sample for testing:

This is the first Samsung SSD to come with retail packaging. Prior generations were only shipped to OEM's or rebranded under other names for retail distribution.

I've always liked the original Samsung brushed aluminum enclosures, and it's nice to see they kept with the trend. They have added some burnt orange plastic trimming and done away with the assembly screws, making for a cleaner look.

As clarified here, the smallest (64GB) model carries a reduced write speed of 170MB/sec, and random writes vary by capacity as well, dropping to 11,000 IOPS for the 64GB unit.

TRIM is supported out of the box this time around. Pricing is in line with Samsung's previous generation.
