OCZ Vertex LE (Limited Edition) 100GB SSD Review - Sandforce Goes Retail

Subject: Storage
Manufacturer: OCZ Technology

Introduction and Packaging

Back in January, we got a look at the very first Sandforce controlled drive - the OCZ Vertex 2 Pro.  That drive broke records across our entire test suite, and we just couldn't wait to see it come out in retail form for the masses to consume.  Just one month after seeing that prototype, we received the real deal.  Enter the Vertex LE:

It's here!
This drive shares the same Sandforce controller present in the Vertex 2 Pro.  While similar, some of the enterprise level features were removed towards the end of saving cost (i.e. no supercap).  While this might increase the chance of data loss if power is lost during a write operation, it will be no worse than what you would experience with any other available SSD or HDD, since no other drive incorporated such a power reserve.

We just got this drive in last night, and I'll admit I was so eager to test it that I pounded on this drive all night so we could bring you the results as fast as humanly possible.
