While Intel seems to be quite content with their current line of value processors, the Celeron, even when falling behind AMD’s past Duron steppings, AMD is continually looking to improve. Not wanting to even leave a slight opening for Intel in this category, AMD decided to release the 1.0 GHz Duron in late August and is now set to release the 1.1 GHz model to the PC community.

Having started at the 600 MHz level, this completes the 500 MHz increase mark, meaning this line of processor has lasted quite a long time compared to most other chip makers. While the Duron 1.1 GHz does offer the same enhancements as the 1.0 GHz, offering the extra stepping allows the current low-cost market to grow in stride with the higher-end markets.

While this may not be the processor release that many of you were expecting or hoping for, I think the Duron 1.1 GHz is still a very important step for AMD and should demonstrate the commitment that AMD has for their new line of processors.
