MSI Z87 MPOWER Motherboard Review
MSI again proves why they are a top-tier motherboard manufacturer with their masterful design of the Z87 MPower board. At stock speeds, the board easily powered through the benchmarks with performance rivaling that of the competing Intel Z87-based systems.
As of June 23, the MSI Z87 MPower board was available at Newegg.com for $234.99. The board was also available from other retailers such as Amazon.com for $229.99 with Prime shipping and TigerDirect.com for $229.99.
Before continuing with our final thoughts on this board, we would like to take this opportunity to give our friends at MSI a hearty “Thank You” for giving us the opportunity and pleasure of reviewing their latest refresh of the MPower series, the Z87 MPower motherboard. With the Z87 MPower board, MSI took an existing design with the Z77 MPower and perfected it. The Z87 MPower preserves all the attributes that made the Z77 MPower an award-winning product with some notable additions of its own. MSI chose to update the heat sink design leading to more affective cooling of the VRMs and Z87 chipset. MSI includes a total of eight SATA ports, an mSATA slot, and an enhanced audio chipset to truly elevate the Z87 MPower to new heights. The board was rock solid in testing with performance to match. While its BIOS was mainly unchanged from the previous generation, MSI did tweak it to add enhancements such as the graphical-based hardware monitoring and the visual board layout utility. Adding in the Killer NIC to the mix was just the icing on the cake.
