Introduction and Specifications

The EVGA UV Plus+ allows you to connect up additional monitors to your notebook or desktop PC through a USB connection rather than requiring you to install another graphics card. Can this new device from one of our favorite video card vendors help you out of a virtual desktop space deficiency?
Introduction

When we review graphics card here at PC Perspective we are usually looking to see how they perform in the worlds of gaming performance, image quality, power consumption and value.  There are times though when the usual evaluation methods just aren’t very useful or important and back at CES this past January we saw a new device from EVGA that fit right into that segment: the UV Plus+.  It is not the first device that allows users to add additional screen real estate to their computers via USB but it is the first time such a product has been actively promoted to users like ours: enthusiasts, home users and even mobile professional.

UV Plus+ UV 12 and UV 16 Specifications

The basic problem behind the release of the new EVGA UV Plus+ devices is pretty straight forward: you have a need for another monitor on your current machine but for some reason your current hardware won’t support it.  It could be that the graphics card on your desktop already has two monitors attached or that your machine is a notebook computer and can’t easily expand its video capabilities; either way the EVGA UV Plus+ should be able to fit the bill.

There are two versions of the EVGA UV Plus+ – the UV 12 and the UV 16.  They differ only on their external design (which is incredibly exaggerated when you see what functionality differences there are) and the resolutions they support.  Here’s a table of the common specifications between both models:

As for supported resolutions on the two models:

** Note that the 1600×1200 and 1600×1050 resolutions are only available on the UV 16 model

The EVGA UV Plus+ supports a wide array of resolutions and refresh rates that should be acceptable for just about any display you want to attach it to.

The test sample I received was a pre-production model of the UV 12 that was handmade; it had some physical flaws that we are willing to overlook.
