Prolimatech throws Megahalem into high performance cooling ring

We've evaluated numerous CPU coolers from a variety of established vendors that include the likes of Zalman, CoolerMaster, and Thermalright. But, today we are treading off the beaten path a bit to review a CPU cooler from a relatively unknown company called Prolimatech. This Taiwan-based outfit was founded in 2008 and their one and only CPU cooler currently in production that supports Intel's LGA 1366 socket is dubbed the Megahalem.

It's design doesn't look too unique from many other U-shaped heatsinks on the market currently, but other PC enthusiasts have had only rave reviews about the Megahalem's performance and overall construction. We are going to torture the Megahalem against some of the best air coolers in our test lab to see if it can knock off popular heatsinks from Zalman and others.

Prolimatech Megahalem CPU Cooler Features (taken from Prolimatech's website)

  • Minimal air resistance between fins allowing best balance between noise and performance in range of 800-1200RPM. For all out performance, fan RPM at 1600 or above is recommended.
  • Heatpipes are lined up in a straight line to prevent air back draft allowing air to easily pass through the heatsink body.
  • Wide fins with mathematically calculated thickness to maximize best air-to-surface cooling rate.

  • Uniquely designed, easy-to-install socket 775 and 1366 retention mechanism to increase cooling ability.
  • Includes easy-to-apply high grade thermal compound, a perfect sidekick to all Prolimatech heatsinks.
