OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Power Supply Review

Author: Lee Garbutt
Manufacturer: OCZ Technology

A Detailed Look

The ModXStream Pro 600W power supply features a good-looking black matte finish.  The steel enclosure measures only 160mm (6.3”) long and uses a single 140mm fan on the bottom side for cooling.

The backside panel features an open grill area and includes a power receptacle and master On-Off switch.  The honey comb grill on the back allows air to exhaust out of the power supply for cooling all the internal components with minimal restriction.

The fan speed is automatically controlled by the internal component temperature (speeds up as the combined load and temperature increases) via an onboard controller.  The 140mm, 11 blade fan (RL4Z-S1352512H) is manufactured by Globe Fan and incorporates sleeve bearings.  It is rated for .45A when operating on 12 VDC.

The ModXStream Pro 600W power supply comes with a good assortment of hard wired and modular cables and connectors.  All of the cables are covered with black plastic mesh sleeving and measure approximately 21” long (to the first connector).

•    Main power connector (24-pin/20-pin)

•    EPS 12V 8-pin (4+4-pin)

•    ATX 12V 4-pin

•    (2) PCI Express (6-pin and 6+2-pin)

•    (4) Peripheral Optical/HDD (4-pin)

•    (6) Peripheral Serial ATA (15-pin)

•    (2) Peripheral FDD (4-pin)

There are six modular cable sockets on the front of the PSU.  The four 6-pin black sockets are used for all the modular peripheral drive cables and the two 8-pin red sockets are used for the PCI-E cables.
