Introduction

The G3 Series also uses a 130mm cooling fan with a hydraulic dynamic bearing for quiet operation and EVGA claims the new G3 units offer even better performance than the G2 models. The Supernova G3 Series is now available in five different models ranging from 550W up to 1000W. We will be taking a detailed look at the Supernova 850W G3 power supply in this review.

EVGA was founded in 1999 with headquarters in Brea, California. They continue to specialize in producing NVIDIA based graphics adapters and Intel based motherboards and keep expanding their PC power supply product line, which includes over forty models ranging from the high-end 1,600W SuperNOVA T2 to the budget minded EVGA 400W power supply.

Who cares about 1000W? No
Who cares about 1000W? No relevant combination of modern hardware requires even remotely that much power – an OC’d 6950X with Titan X Pascals in SLI might edge over 700W under power virus loads, but nowhere near 1000. And under normal gaming loads power draw would be far less.
Now stop being an a**. This is a well written and researched, thorough review. And of course JonnyGuru gets an early sample – OklahomaWolf is pretty much regarded as the bee’s knees in PSU testing. He probably gets more or less what he wants*. Publishing a high quality review now that units are actually available seems like a good idea to me.
*at least as much as any HW reviewer does.

Positive review of a good product != hocking.
Quality PSUs don’t get the attention they deserve/should have. The importance of including a good PSU in your PC build is something that needs to be communicated more, not less, and reviews like this are a part of that. Of course, there’s also the tendency for makers of low-cost crap products to not send them out for review, which unfortunately few publications have the funds to do anything about themselves.
Last 2 EVGA power supplies I
Last 2 EVGA power supplies I tried in the past few months were both DOA. Have gone back to Corsair.
Hocking: to spit up phlegm.
Hocking: to spit up phlegm. To pawn. etc.
Hawking: to sell aggressively; to hunt with bird of prey. Also Stephen Hawking.
The ripple / noise is excellent. I haven’t had an EVGA PS fail yet, might be lucky.

I’m not sure where you go the fan is quiet. Ever other review and users have the same issue with these G3 power supplies. In ECO mode they are worse. The aggressive fan curve for ECO that fan spins up at max rpm and is by far 40db in noise and runs from 5 – 10 minutes.
Here are the fan specs for that model.
EVGA H1282412HA (12V, 0.35A, 2170 RPM, Hydro Dynamic Bearing” fan.
Though not in ECO mode the fan curve isn’t quite that aggressive. It will still hit max though and spin for 5 – 10 minutes as well.
You know it is loud when you are gaming with sealed headphones on and the power supply fan kicks on and all your teammates ask what is that noise.
It is far from being silent and quite like you put in the review. IT is the loudest power supply on the market now.
