HotHardware caught a glimpse of Intel's 8 core processor, the motherboard that it will sit on, and a few benchmarks as well. Luckily they brought a camera so they can share. Except for memory bandwidth, this new multicore CPU cleans up with Sandra benchmarks. It obciously has a lot of power behind it, it can do a Cinebench rendering pass in 2/3's of the time it takes a C2E QX6800.

According to this slide at Hardspell.com, AMD is going to be showing off the upcoming Barcelona processor to the press in Tunisia this month. That won't mean that you are going to see reviews of it any sooner, but any information is good information.
Barcelona is server part while Agena FX is a FX super fast gaming part. They are both based on what AMD claims is "evolutionary design" and it calls it K10. AMD will introduce and show this CPU at Tunisia on the 23rd and 24th of April.

Today Intel is announcing the availability of their latest Core architecture processor. The new Core 2 Extreme QX6800 has been pretty much confirmed for months now around the rumor mill, but you should finally be able to get your hands on one today. Here's the quick run down:

Intel is supposedly developing a new UMPC platform according to some slides seen by the folks at HKEPC. Engadget has posted some pics and information on the subject including a smaller footprint and doubling of current UMPC battery life.
Known only by its codename "McCaslin," the chipset will reportedly occupy a space of 975 square millimeters (as opposed to the relatively enormous 2915 square millimeters of today's models) and feature power-sipping 600MHz and 800MHz proces

How does SuperPi 1M in 9.844 seconds sound? At -145.4Â°C MADSHRIMPS managed to get the x6800 hit 5200Mhz, and earned them 31st in the World Ranking at HWBot.org! Carrying on to the point of instability, but still being able to boot, they pushed it to 378.9 Bus with a 14x multiplier. That gave them a FSB of 1515.7MHz and a core of 5305MHz. Gives you something to aim for, eh?

[H]ard|OCP has posted some very good slides of Intel's Penryn preview. Over a dozen 45nm Hi-k designs are being developed by Intel and they shouldn't have a problem getting them made, they will have 2 45nm manufacturing fabs up and running within 6 to 9 months and 2 more on the way.

The Inquirer reports on a very interesting prototype coming out of Japan. By placing the core on a plastic substrate, they have created a chip that can be bent, albeit a very slow one. There are many applications that involve conditions a ceramic CPU can't survive for long in, and this may be a perfect solution.

Legion Hardware has published their "Seriously Easy E6400 Overclocking Guide". All it takes is a E6400 and a P5N-E SLI, and you can get overclocking. They offer 2 ways even, one that lets you leave the memory alone and a second that shows you how to pump up the memory as well. RIO RANCHO, N.M., Feb. 26, 2007 -- Intel Corporation today announced that it will invest $1 billion to $1.5 billion in its Rio Rancho site to retool Fab 11X for production on Intel's next generation 45 nanometer (nm) manufacturing process. Fab 11X will be the company's fourth factory scheduled to use the 45nm process, with production in New Mexico scheduled to start in the second half of next year.

The Inquirer is pitting a 4 core Xeon against a 8 Core. Now this may seem like a waste of time, as the 8 core will do better than the 4, but it is all a matter of scaling. Can an octuple core perform twice as well? Is it better to split a task between 2 quad core machines?
Or it may be just so they can post a Sandra MultiMedia instruction benchmark of 573,631.
