Kingston has announced it's new lineup of low(er) latency DDR3. The timings available on DRR3 will take some getting used to, as even these tightly timed DIMMs look sloppy compared to high end DDR2, but the as the actual clockspeed increases, those timings won't seem so bad. The modules AnandTech tested are rated at DDR3-1375 @ 7-7-7-20, and when they were clocked up to 1520 @ 8-8-8-22 they left Corsair's Dominators in the dust.

The increase in maximum speed is the real difference, but if you are looking to find out how that is achieved, and why DDR2 can't just keep be pushed faster then dig into the article.

The new Reaper series from OCZ really impressed Overclockers Online. Running at 1150 @ 5-5-5-18 straight out of the box they are some of the fastest chips, period. The new cooling solution both adds style to the DIMMs as well as some very good cooling. Once they got down to testing, they found limitations in tightening the timings, but by keeping the timings at the rated intervals, they could get a nice jump in speed.

AnandTech has grabbed 2 DIMMs of DDR3-1066 running at 7-7-7-20 and an ASUS P5K3 Deluxe. The contrast that pairing with an ASUS P5B Deluxe and Corsair's Dominator DDR2-1111. They varied the speeds to get a better idea of performance, unfortunately there are no DDR3-1333 DIMMs available yet, but when they are they will revisit the test to see what effect the raw speed has. Is timing everything?

Gone are the days when there was a 4GB limit on addressable memory because of the limitations of 32-bit processors. WinXP and Vista both come in 64-bit version which has a theoretical limit of 16,000,000 GB of RAM

3dGameMan has posted a review of Mushkin's new 4GB kit of PC2-6400 memory with timings of 5-4-4-12. These kits aren't just for gaming, although you will benefit from it, it also helps you to run Vista with better response. If you are an overclocker, there is something even nicer about these DIMMs, they bumped the voltage to 2.2, kept the timings the same and managed to hit 1068MHz.

OCZ's 2GB PC2-9200 Reaper HPC kit is designed for speed and quiet at the same time. The DIMMs are totally covered in a black heatspreader that has a heat pipe running along the top, and extends to another heatspreader located above the DIMM, attached only by the heatpipe. Super Talent's T1000UX2G5 2GB PC2-8000 DDR2 offers great potential, with a 20% overclock possible using the default timings, or you can tighten the timings at 1000MHz. Big Bruin did find little difference between that and the reference PC2-6400 they tested it against, which costs about 1/2 as much. Over at Techware Labs, OCZ's PC2 7200 SLI-Ready 2Gb kit is on the test bench. This RAM may be fast out of the package, but they couldn't say they'd fully tested it without a good overclock, and in this case 1200MHz @ 5-5-5-18 timings by bumping the voltage to 2.4 was the best they could get. Add some active cooling and you may even go beyond.

Mushkin's XP2-9200 runs at 1150MHz @ 5-5-4-12 out of the box, and Overclocker's Club pushed it to 1200MHz without any effort at all. With a different board and a bump in voltage, these DIMMs can probably go even further. As this RAM will keep up with any processor on the market right now, it lets you take full advantage of a 1:1 ratio between RAM and CPU.

HotHardware has posted a review of Corsair's newest Dominator, the TWIN2X2048-10000C5DF. CellShock and MSC GmbH are probably not names that spring to mind when someone is talking about RAM. However, they have been active in Europe for over 20 years. Legit Reviews takes a look at their DDR2 1000 2GB kit. The DIMMS have a good heatsink, use Micron D9GKX IC's, live on an 8 layer PCB and can hold their own against Corsair.

X-bit Labs reviews the Acer Aspire 9300, a Turion X2 based machine coupled with Nvidia nForce Go 430 MCP and Nvidia GeForce Go 6100 chipset plus an onboard 7600 Go SE. Corsair's DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF runs at 1111 MHz with timings of 4-4-4-12. They have Corsair's newly designed heatspreaders, and the DOMINATOR Airflow fan bracket is optional. Thanks to this efficient cooling scheme, 1244 MHz at 4-4-4-12 is reachable, if the voltage is bumped to 2.5V.
