Here's a brief post for our Canadian fans. If you have been interested in a decent, large SSD, then you might want to check out Newegg Canada. The Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 1TB is currently $100 off, which puts it at a price of $299.99 CDN plus tax and shipping. While 30c/GB might sound mundane to our neighbours to the south, the currency conversion works out to about 23c/GB USD.
Sure, it's not the fastest SSD on the market, but it's a solid, mainstream one. A 2TB version also exists, but you will be paying about $60 more than just getting two, 1TB SKUs. This version uses the Silicon Motion SM2246EN controller and Micron flash. We might end up with better or cheaper drives coming in the future, I have no idea, but this should be good for cheap, decent, and now.
Top shelf, eh!

Meh, now that I know Amazon
Meh, now that I know Amazon US ships PC parts to Canada now I’ll wait for them to put a 1TB SSD for a $100 like they did during there Black Friday sale.
“Cheap” and “Data”, should
“Cheap” and “Data”, should never be uttered in the same sentence, at least for consumers, and SMB’s. Nothing is more valubale than your Data, so why in the FUCK would you want to gamble with it? That’s just poor people shit. I don’t know how many dozens or hundreds of clients of mine have had their jobs, lives, ruined because of data corruption, loss, etc.
You know not only dozens, but
You know not only dozens, but possibly hundreds of people who had their lives ruined because of (at the very worst) a dead hard drive?
Am I expected to believe that shit? LOL
Not only that but I’ve had a 512GB Mushkin SSD and it’s worked flawlessly for the past two or so years that I’ve owned it with very heavy use.
There’s a couple issues with
There's a couple issues with this. First, valuable data should never be stored single-source. Back it up to a reliable spinning-disk drive if you like, and online too. Second, SSDs are often used to store replacable data, like installation instances.
Third, reliability is not why this SSD is cheap anyway. It's cheap because you're not getting the extreme tier of performance, like you would from an NVMe-based solution, but it's not expected to just choke and die on you. It uses Micron flash and a good controller from Silicon Motion. It should be fine if you want a decent, big SSD that can keep up with SATA 6Gbps. I even checked with Allyn before I made this post to make sure there wasn't any known firmware/etc. issues I was unaware of.
No, those “clients” had major
No, those “clients” had major problems because somebody failed to educate them about the absolute neccesity of backing up their data (no matter how fancy their gear is).
You can have the best UPS, pc power supply, and ssds in the world, and you are still one direct lightning strike away from total data loss…
Dozens? Hundreds??
In a case
Dozens? Hundreds??
In a case like this – large data set, common or repeated problem/ outcome, etc. – one must seriously look at the least common denominator. Here, obviously, its the ‘consultant’.
And BTW, the use of phrases like “poor people shit,” like “master race” and “those people,” for example, only gives not-too-flattering insight into your personality. Is it coincidence that you posted anonymously?
I’m surprised that you even
I’m surprised that you even have clients; if you neglected to advise them to back up their data!

On the newegg ebay page, it is down to 250$ CAD right now! Also free shipping.

Who cares, rather go and throw $250 on a single hand of blackjack, better odds than seeing this shitty SSD lasting or working for any solid amount of time.
Spoken like someone who
Spoken like someone who doesn’t have a clue what they’re talking about and wants everyone to know.
Thank-you for thinking of us
Thank-you for thinking of us Canadaians who are getting fleeced buying anything!
I know the feeling. I am one,
I know the feeling. I am one, lol. Granted, we had a pretty smooth ride a handful of years ago when dollar was at parity but our wages were still slightly inflated (relative to US).
Not everyone can afford the
Not everyone can afford the latest and the greatest. Many people don’t NEED the latest and the greatest. Any SSD will outperform a spinning disk. Offline backups are a necessity in this cryyptolocker world. Which many people are finding out a little too late.
I’ve had both expensive and cheap drives fail prematurely or arrived DOA. People don’t like the 3-2-1 rule for backups until disaster happens then they either take me out to dinner or shutter their doors and wish they followed my advice.

I have one of these as my main drive for my desktop. Works as expected. Big and fast enough. It’s no evil or anything, but gets the job done. You only notice it being slow when doing mixed writes/reads. Still a great deal.

Unfortunately we’re I live in Canada this drive would cost nearly $500 with shipping new egg charges nearly same price as what you buy in shipping. This $299 will end up being g prob $450-500 like a cosmos 2 case I tried ordering still costs Roughly $850 shopped.
