Intel to One-Up Mobile Industry by Incorporating Wi-Di into Intel Mobile Devices - Mobile 3Intel is setting up to one-up the mobile space by incorporating their Wireless Display technology into future Intel mobile devices. This would make upcoming Intel Moorestown mobile platforms the first company to incorporate such a feature which will have a mass appeal to both business and consumer markets.

According to the PC World article,  Kerry Forrel, Wireless Display product manager hinted that “the technology will likely appear in devices such as netbooks, tablets and handheld devices”.

“We fully expect to take the technology there,” Forrell said.

In addition, Intel CEO Paul Otellini stated during an investor conference: “What we want to do is have better out-of-box usage experience. What we’ll be doing over the next few years is take the Wi-Di capability that’s in the laptop today and extend that into all the Intel platforms. Any of the Intel-based devices you have will be able to handle that seamless wireless communication of HD video between that device and the big screen.”

We have been testing Wireless Display in-house (expect a full review in the next few days as we’re sorting out some technical details with Intel), and the prospect of Wi-Di appearing on an Intel portable device anytime soon seems a bit remote. While the technology is promising, improvements need to be made in responsiveness and hardware support before we can stream Netflix and YouTube from a smartphone, over Wi-Di, to a remote display.

Look for our Wireless Display review to be published very soon.
