While you probably have the same reaction to the question of which $2800 + tax laptop is the best one to chose as hardCOREware, the fact remains some people will buy them. At that price range, a lot of the price is for show and not for value. Having a laptop resembling a UFO or Italian racing car might make it look fast but has no effect on the actual performance of the laptop. With so much focus on the exterior and the reasonable assumption by the manufacturer that anyone willing to pay that price tag has little knowledge of what components make the fastest gaming machine the question stands; if someone has their mind made up to spend this money, which laptop should you recommend. Read on to see how the internals of Alienware and Razer’s gaming laptops compare.
"I was recently asked on Twitter what I thought of the Razer Blade, a 17" gaming laptop which will become available later this year for a staggering $2800. My first thought was "LOL" but then I realized that some people really would spend $2800 on a laptop.
The question is, if you were to spend that on a proper gaming laptop and not a hyperbole-inducing showcase piece to get blogs to drool all over your brand, how much better will the specs look?"

I think Razer is on to something and as long as this is moderately successful, I can seem cheaper smaller version of this machine.

I’d definately go for the Razer if the specs are the same.

Ah, sorry I only read your post, and not the original one.
Well if I had to choose I’d get the Alienware one, but in reality, even if I had the money to spend I wouldn’t buy either of them. I simply would not be able to buy the Razer one knowing it was underpowered, and I don’t like the look of the Alienware one.

Clevo P170HM-3DE, easy decision. Fastest “laptop” I can think of and best bang for buck I can find.

I think the Razer laptop. I don’t like the Alienware styling.
Love how the article fails to
Love how the article fails to note the razer blade is an ultraportable unlike the alienware model so is making an apples to oranges comparison.
Still will be interesting to see if the razer blade makes any headway as its a very niche item.
Very interesting how much the
Very interesting how much the look and feel matter when you are dropping that amount of money … I think that Razer might do better than I originally thought.
There is about 3 lbs weight
There is about 3 lbs weight and about 1.2″ in height difference between the two products so there is more then just looks at play. ( With the size and weight difference more expensive materials are generally used in the frame.)
However, not sure the ultraportable form factor is really warranted for it.
but that is exactly what I
but that is exactly what I mean. Size and weight are secondary to me. What I see first is Core i7 2860QM versus Core i7 2640M and GTX 580M versus GTX 555M … and so on.
If I am going to pay that price I want the best hardware available inside and then I will look to see if the shell is pretty.
well. I prefer alienware .
well. I prefer alienware . cause you buy a laptop for gaming not like the macbook air for working and convenience . the razor is 2500 dollars . but the internal is not worse at all. and you can not even custom it!
alienware is like a desktop . but do you really like to play game at school ? at starbuck? no way . and the alienware m17x .the start price is 1500 and if you pay 1000 to develop the internal .it is much much much faster than the razer .
