MSI is updating its Radeon RX 580 Armor series with a new MK2 variant (in both standard and OC editions) that features an updated cooler with red and black color scheme and a metal backplate along with Torx 2.0 fans.

The graphics card is powered by a single 8-pin PCI-E power connection and has two DisplayPort, two HDMI, and one DVI display output. MSI claims the MK2 cards use its Military Class 4 hardware including high end solid capacitors. The large heatsink features three copper heatpipes and a large aluminum fin stack. It appears that the cards are using the same PCB as the original Armor series but it is not clear from MSI’s site if they have dome anything different to the power delivery.

The RX 580 Polaris GPU is running at a slight factory overclock out of the box with a boost clock of up to 1353 MHz (reference is 1340) for the standard edition and at up to 1366 MHz for the RX 580 Armor MK2 OC Edition. The OC edition can further clock up to 1380 MHz when run in OC mode using the company’s software utility (enthusiasts can attempt to go beyond that but MSi makes no guarantees). Both cards come with 8GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at the reference 8GHz.

MSI did not release pricing or availability but expect them to be difficult to find and for well above MSRP when they are in stock  If you have a physical Microcenter near you, it might be worth watching for one of these cards there to have a chance of getting one closer to MSRP.

It's basically a useless card for now because it will disappear as soon as it's displayed, and it will appear on some website being sold for 2x-4x times the msrp.

Anybody that was or is enlisted knows anything "military grade" or "military class" is absolute garbage and should be avoided at all costs.

Especially military furniture, I've been thorough several moves since my stepdad who was at the time (now gs11) enlisted, it's cheep furniture meant to be used till it falls apart, same goes with this card, cheeply made and intended but for use till it breaks, and break it will, and it shall have a short life, like anything in the military.

It's a purely meaningless advertising claim, like HD on anything other than a 1080p screen, or "VR ready". There is no unified regulatory spec on what can be called "military grade, or spec, or class". Gigabyte has been doing it for years, as have companies that use things like gorilla glass or any sort of reinforced framing like Toughbooks.
I'm former military and currently work for the DoD and can promise that the military and Fed gov have no white list for "military grade" equipment. They buy whatever they need, or whatever general/admiral/SES in charge got paid off by a particular contractor to approve purchase of.
There are currently tons of Surface Pros being purchased for everyone in the department purely because they look futuristic, NFL advertising apparently actually works, and/or Microsoft was simply the lowest bidder...
The internal IT groups hate the damn things because they are completely impossible to service/upgrade, the only recourse for spillage is shredding the entire laptop/tablet, and the morons handling purchasing think they are saving money by purchasing last year's models with base hardware specs.

Military grade means military grade semicondactors, these types are more expensive but can take on harsher conditions like higher temperature, humidity, and pressure

So...some who was enlisted and now works for the DoD has never heard of Mil-Std? That's pretty funny considering how many spec sheets and books we have. While it's true there is no "grade" system (not that I've seen) on COTS and there is no regulatory agency that does this testing, mil spec gear exists and the important stuff does have to be tested before use, like gas masks or the Jesus nut on the two-blade Hueys. Usually not computers, unless they are for SOF. So while commercially it's more or less bs, the definition in itself and the programs around it are very much real.

lul rip graphics card market, miners are basically cancer

February 4, 2018 | 05:41 PM - Posted by VileLittleFatGamingPiggiesWhiningAllDamnDay (not verified)

Ha ha ha! The miners got your GPUs, blamer gamers, what will you do!

Maybe get out of your Mom's basement and get a job, you little fat whining Eric Cartman gaming piggies! But Mooommm!!! I Don't Want to get a job, and those miniers have all the GPUs so I can't sit on my fat little gamer stinky butt and game all day at 4K.

Get a F-ing Job and earn more money to pay the going rate for GPUs you gaming bastards. AMD for one needs to raise its Wholesale pricing so the retailers don't make all the profits off of AMD's hard work. Fat little gaming scrubs over the years expecting AMD to compete with Nvidia with no funds to do so! Fat little self-entitled gaming bastards whining because GPUs are now so popular for compute that they are mostly going to the professional markets more than any miners.

Look at all those Vega 10 base die based Radeon Pro WX 9100s or the 80, Vega 10 base die based Radeon Instinct MI25's that go into one of those Project 47 petaflop supercomputers in a single cabinet. That's where most of the Vega 10 dies are going with the little remaining Vega 10 dies(The ones that do not make the Top Binning regimens for pro usage) used for the consumer variants that the miners so willingly snap up at 3 times MSRP before the little gaming scrubs can even get their stinking little gamer hands on them.

Little gaming gits with their overinflated sense of entitlement that think that GPUs should be almost free, but never stop complaning about that FPS and AMD not getting some competition aganist Nvidia. It's because of gamers that AMD nearly went broke and those stinking gamers do not want to pay AMD the proper markups on GPUs for AMD to ever properly compete with Nvidia for gaming/FPS. It takes millions/billions to tape out 5 diffeent base die varaints(GP100, GP102, GP104, GP106, GP108) like Nvidia can afford to do, but the little gaming scrubs will complain if they have to pay for any R&D/Tape-Out costs via higher prices on AMD's GPU SKUs.

Money talks and gamers can take a long walk off of a short pier right into the shark infested waters! Prices will go up to counter demand if the supply is constrained or demand is so high that supply can not keep up. That's ECON 101, but the fat little gaming peckerwoods dropped out of school in the 5th grade where the Three R went to die at the one room trailer for the deadbeat gamers.

What the jiminy crickets did you just flaming say about me, you little bozo? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Cub Scouts, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret camping trips in Wyoming, and I have over 300 confirmed knots. I am trained in first aid and I’m the top bandager in the entire US Boy Scouts (of America). You are nothing to me but just another friendly face. I will clean your wounds for you with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this annual trip, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying those shenanigans to me over the Internet? Think again, finkle. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of MSN friends across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the seminars, man. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your bake sale. You’re frigging done, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can tie knots in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in road safety, but I have access to the entire manual of the United States Boy Scouts (of America) and I will use it to its full extent to train your miserable butt on the facts of the continents, you little schmuck. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your silly tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goshdarned sillyhead. I will throw leaves all over you and you will dance in them. You’re friggin done, kiddo.

How's your Swife(Sister Wife) Brandeen doing and them childranewts you have sired they aal have fully functioning gills and webbed hands and feet. That BOofA crap does not replace getting some productive employment going instead of wasting your time out in the woods with the rest of them preverts. I can hear the banjos playing just reading your tripe, you worthless little gaming git!

Usless gaming scurbs complaining about some GPU prices and such like it's hard to make a grand even at minimum wage and in some states the minimum wage in higher than the federal. So get a second job you crybaby! Construction work is hard but the wages are a little higher but that cuts into the play time for those lazy gaming poops!

You are a fucking douchebag. I have a job and gpus have skyrocketed in price. Stop being such a dick.

February 5, 2018 | 06:16 PM - Posted by ProMarketsForTheWin (not verified)

Get another job and pay the price for GPUs because GPUs are for compute as much as for graphics from now on! If Your Job does not pay enough that's on you and if you only work for 40HRs per week then there is plenty of time remaing to get some extra work and pay to play on the GPUs.

AMD needs to increase those wholesale GPU die prices as much as possible and get its fair share of the profits from all of AMD's hard work. Lisa Su Knew how to tell Raja to design a great compute focused Vega 10 base die design for those Radeon pro WX and Radeon Instinct MI25s to complement the Epyc SKUs in the compute/AI/professional workstation markets where folks there can afford to pay a proper markup.

AMD does not need to be all about only a consumer/gaming market dependent company anymore as that's a total dead end that even JHH over at Nvidia is working hard to get out from under also.

It's all Epyc/Redeon profesional WX/Instinct and Compute for AMD from now on with little stress on the comsumer only markets going forward. AMD is Free at last from those loss leader gaming scrubs and their inability to pay a proper GPU markup so AMD can compete with Nvidia in that real market, the Professional market, than actually butters the bread for any CPU/GPU company looking to prosper.
