UPDATE: Just a couple more days left on this contest - we are closing entries for this Drobo at 12:01am EST on September 26th!

So you know here at PC Perspective we are big fans of backing up your data.  And one such brand of devices that helps users do that efficiently and safely is Drobo.  We are still working on our Drobo FS review here internally, but should probably check out Allyn's previous review of the 8-bay Drobo Pro to get an idea of the technology and reliability of Drobo.

But, back to the point, did we say you could win a brand new Drobo for yourself?  Yes, you can get your hands on a free Drobo FS unit by simply filling out a form and using your Twitter and Facebook accounts to spread the good word of data security!!

What do you have to do?  It's a simple three step process:

  1. Follow @Drobo on Twitter and send a message to all your friends with the hash tags #drobo and #pcper telling them about your love of both!
    1. OR .... hit up Drobo on their Facebook page and leave a note on YOUR wall for your friends on the same topic - backing up your data and how Drobo gets it done.
  2. Finally, fill out the form at to finish the job.

You will be emailed a coupon for a Drobo even if you don't win the free one, so you can still get something out this deal, right?!?

Our thanks go out to Drobo for the donations and to our loyal reader base for support PC Perspective over the years!

Not winning a drobo is more than enough compensation to not be exposed to the idiocy that is facebook.

Well said. My sentiments exactly.

Double that. Pleased for the first time a Drobo and no stupid Facebook involved in the picture.

Sorry Ryan,

I real want to win a Drobo bad, but I don't think it fair to ask people to Hit up Drobo on their Facebook page.

I've done step 1 and 3 but in no way I will ever do step 2.
I don't' have a Facebook page and I'm not going to every have one.

Can you please change it so, us the few people that don't want a Facebook page have a fair go please at winning a Great Drobo.

Many thanks to Drobo for supporting PCPER and may thanks for PCPER best site on the web.

I too would love a Drobo but I don't think that artificially pumping up a company's social networking numbers is a fair exchange. Not everyone wants a Twitter or FB account and I believe that dedicated PCPer readers should not have to meet a contest barrier of entry for the privilege of being spammed.

How about a separate contest path for those of us who view social networking as over-used, over-hyped and over-valued?

September 10, 2011 | 08:34 AM - Posted by cyow

For me it not about artificially pumping up a company's social networking numbers. I just don't like Facebook it is push on me like it some kind of drug.

Every where I go Join us on Facebook, you have to be on Facebook, what you call on Facebook.

I'm so sick of it been push on me by the Facebook(drug)dealers I just can't go any where with out it happen those days it sad.

I get see the point of Twitter just and use it a little to follow great people like the gang here at PCPER and Drobo for news and stuff.

anyhow thanks again for the great site and podcast and thanks Drobo for help it happen.

I doubt anyone wins as I never saw winners name here. Anyways is it open to residents outside USA/Canada?

September 11, 2011 | 10:16 AM - Posted by Ryan Shrout

Really dude? If you don't think anyone ever wins (because its not you) then why bother entering?

I won a motherboard through the podcast once. Don't disqualify me from the Drobo though - I want that FS bad. My windows home server has being really weird as of late and I'd like to move to a Drobo FS and change the server to a HTPC.

I'd love an opportunity to win a Drobo and I'd happily pay the Federal / State / Local tax on such a item. Unfortunately I am not willing to pay the social media tax and join both Twitter and especially Facebook to 'earn' the chance to win such a device. The opportunity cost of those social media sites is too high and does not offset the perceived value of winning said device. Spending my own money makes much more sense to me than giving Zuckerberg and his crew access to my personal information. Call me a tech Luddite if you like but I just don't see enough pro-consumer teeth in the social media EULA / privacy policies to justify me giving them personal information about who I am.

September 11, 2011 | 10:16 AM - Posted by Ryan Shrout

Damn people, if you don't want to post on Facebook, you don't have to!

September 11, 2011 | 10:53 AM - Posted by Syllabub

I am not trying to toss you under a bus or anything so dramatic here. I just took the opportunity to express an opinion that requiring the Facebook and Twitter interactions was not welcome. When I looked at the steps to follow to qualify for the Drobo I took the Twitter and Facebook interactions as 'required'. If I read too much into or took the steps too literally I apologize. I'm probably in the minority about the Facebook thing, being an anti-social Luddite does pigeonhole me after all, and PCper and any of your partners are well within your rights to ask for the Twitter / Facebook interaction as the soft cost of having the opportunity to win the Drobo. Now if you had said Google+ instead of Facebook I would have been all over that! Peace out.

It is really cool of you to offer a Drobo Unit for someone to WIN.

September 24, 2011 | 09:36 PM - Posted by Eric (not verified)

Drobo's have come down in price haven't they? I clicked the link on the contest page, and I could have sworn that Drobos used to cost $400+ WITHOUT storage, but now it comes with 3TB of storage for a Drobo around that price.

September 25, 2011 | 02:50 AM - Posted by cyow

Good luck to you all!

Drobo rock and so does PC Perspective!
