Researchers may have found a less toxic alternative to using quantum dots in displays, the so called carbon dot which is a semiconductor that generate a rather cold light, in that they do not emit much yellow or red wavelengths. Previously the CDs were used as the white light which shone through QDs but they contain cadmium or lead which tends to be strictly controlled when used in consumer goods. Nanotechweb is reporting on the successful results of teams which are using cadmium free zinc copper indium sulphide core/shell QDs to produce displays with a significantly higher colour-rendering index than currently available LEDs are capable of, so we may still be on track for better displays in the next few years.
"By combining carbon dots that emit blue light and zinc copper indium sulphide quantum dots that emit in the green and red regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, researchers in China and the US have succeeded in making white light-emitting diodes with a high colour-rendering index of 93."

to paraphrase a classic
to paraphrase a classic story, “FINISH THE FUCKING STORY! What happened? What about the Quantum Dots?” these freaky little fuckers are like that drug trip I saw in that movie in the 90’s when I was tripping on all those drugs! WHAT ARE THEY, so they are technically 2 dimensional yet they exist in a three dimensional world and can be collected and measured within a 3d volume? I am having serious problems with Quantum Dots. I think I may have probably gotten to old to absorb new info but Quantum Dots are hurting my brain and I would like someone to explain this to me….. Edison twins Or 3…2….1…. Contact style , If possible
Marketing speak is
Marketing speak is responsible for the quantum bit because it sounds cool; that's why changing what you make them out of creates carbon dots. They are built atom by atom and are 2-10nm in size at most. That means they are built in such a way and and such a small scale that quantum effects can be used to move electrons … the size of the dot changes the wavelength emitted when energy is applied.
So not really 2D but built in a way quantum effects matter and can be measured if you use them as qbits in a quantum computer at a really frickin' low temperature.
well explained sir, defonetly
well explained sir, defonetly TVO worthy. I think i get it(but I probably dont). see you in the chatroom tonight
