As of today if you order an HTC Vive VR Headset you should receive it mere days after you place your order, no longer is it a preorder process where you would need to wait an indeterminate amount of time. The package will cost you $799US or $1,149CAN so it is not quite an impulse buy but it certainly is very tempting. You can order online or drop by a Microsoft Store, Gamestop or Micro Center if such things exist in your neighbourhood. Al took a look at some of the technology in the Vive in this article, which is interesting to look at even if you can't quite afford one yet.

I live near a Microcenter that had some Vive in stock this past weekend. I hemmed and hawed so much that my wife want to kill me (though she approved of the purchase). I spent most of Sunday agonizing and watched the in-stock counter tick down to “out of stock”, so the decision was taken from my hands, which was the point of the hemming and hawing in the first place. When the ordeal was over a great weight had been lifted from my soul that was placed there when Palmer announced his KS for the Oculus Rift.
Then I recalled my first time playing Elite and thinking, “boy oh boy, this would be great in VR!” and I was filled with regret and the weight returned, heavy as ever.
And then I remembered that Elite is kinda boring. I proceeded to have the best night of sleep in years, or maybe that was the alcohol.

Solution: Divorce your wife and get a VR Headset! And really hemming and hawing over some hardware for a grown-up married man! Hey Intel has one overpriced CPU SKU for you, but most folks will wait for the pricing to come down and keep their bank account as far from a big Goose Egg as possible!
Let the fools rush in and properly amortize those big R&D costs for the VR Headset makers. Intel has not much of an R&D expense for its 10 core CPU whore pricing, as Intel gets most of its R&D costs amortized by its server customers, Intel is just sticking to its consumer customers like Intel has always done!
