They're only good cards if you can buy them

Subject: General Tech | December 7, 2007 - 01:22 PM |

The Tech Report has a new feature on their page, where they check the availability of components on 4 major web sellers.  This is perfectly timed, and at least partly caused by the release of the 8800GT and HD 3870, which are both good cards.  So far it has been almost impossible to find them for sale, and even if you could find one they are priced well above what we were originally told they would cost.  See how well nVIDIA and AMD are doing now.

"Like last week, we couldn't check every possible retailer, so we restricted ourselves to the four computer

hardware-oriented e-tailers with the most reviews on both our price search engine and Newegg,

TigerDirect, ZipZoomFly, and These should be the largest, and they should do a good job of representing general

availability and pricing. To get our data, we made a search on each e-tailer for "GeForce 8800 GT" and "Radeon HD 3870"

and cataloged the results. Available models are highlighted in green."
