Microsoft is obviously serious about its new found support of Linux, having just joined the Linux Foundation at the top tier of membership. Already, we have seen the bash shell integrated with Windows 10, with familiar commands such as grep, sed, and awk as well as scripting support. After that somewhat surprising development Microsoft once again made the unexpected move of offering eight different Linux server images on Azure. Their newfound interest in the open source OS expands today, with their membership in the Linux Foundation they can continue to integrate more open source tools and projects into their current offerings. You can pop by The Inquirer to read more about this unexpected turn of events.
"The non-profit group advances open technology development and promotes Linux, and Microsoft has signed up as a Platinum member, the highest-ranking option that comes with a $500,000 annual fee."

Watch out for that deadly
Watch out for that deadly embrace because it’s the middle E in that deadly triad of Extend Embrace Extinguish! One can never trust the Lords of Redmond, never ever trust M$!
Embrace Extend Extinguish!
Embrace Extend Extinguish! Damn it what have I been O taking, so that would be the first E in the Deadly triad.
But still any order one mixes up the 3E’s from M$ will result in a bad outcome! One can never trust the Lords of Redmond, never ever trust M$!
Cold medicine taken over a long period of time will do things to ones brain, at that brain is dyslexic to begin with!

Is Microsoft running scared
Is Microsoft running scared because their policies and licensing is driving customers away?
Well, overall market share
Well, overall market share does not show any significant decrease in Windows users. This seems more of an attempt to broaden their marketshare in the cloud, to take customers away from AWS and others.

Well worth for MS to spend
Well worth for MS to spend some $ to have a chance to derail Linux.
Lets put on our conspiracy
Lets put on our conspiracy hats…
is MS trying to steal stuff from the open source community?
for starters those companies who give out bug bounties are actually short change those security researchers, (dont agree? pls do some research b4 opening ur mouth).
so the questions is, are they trying to cherry pick those good stuff from the open source community and include them in to their product?
(since MS and other provide closed source SW, can they hide those stuff?)
i dont know how the linux/open source licensing work, so would MS and others like them are investing in to those open source communities so they can reduce the in house development cost?
if someone out there who have actual knowledge regarding this matter, pls enlighten us.
They have been slowly
They have been slowly realizing that linux isn’t going to replace windows any time soon, and windows isn’t going to replace linux anytime soon. Might as well cozy up tight to linux and have a strong understanding of how to fit into a microsoft+linux world. At the same time have a better control in steering both projects in the long term.
Microsoft is a known contributor to the linux kernel for a while now (admittidly this is mostly in regards to how linux and hyper-v function together).

As Windows 10 is the “last”
As Windows 10 is the “last” os from m$ i could see them supporting linux as they transition to a “windows as a service” api or translation layer. Thus no longer having to upkeep a core os but keeping their users locked in. They would have to be carefull to avoid an Oracle java situation.
