Watch out for those MBs that come with marketing's idea of what constitutes VRM "Phases" and those MBs that come with actual independent and complete VRM Phases. Buildzoid's last few Videos about the VRMs and actual phases on one maker's MBs are some very interesting ones to watch even if they run a little long.

Wikichip is your friend, along with Buildzoid's videos, even if Buildzoid is not using some of the same nomenclature that wikichip uses in his videos.

I loved how you offered less expensive options for the Falcon Tiki. A while back, Allyn was kind enough to do a quick test of a Syba U.2-to-M.2 2.5" enclosure. It would be fairly easy to keep the Tiki's U.2 cable, and go with a much less expensive M.2 SSD, using an enclosure like that one from Syba (there are others I have seen while browsing Newegg). If you have a chance to speak again with the folks at Falcon, you might suggest this as another cost-saving option.

p.s. So, the suspense is overwhelming: now that Darth Malventano is back from his vacation, WHEN DO WE GET TO SEE HIS REVIEW OF THIS UBER 1.5TB U.2 Optane??

It Looks like another ThrottleGate(1) in the making for those Thin and Light and useless laptop form factors from the Laptop OEM! Thanks to Intel's Ultrabook scam the non Apple PC market has been for some years now afflicted with that thin beyond reason laptop design ethos just as Apple is so very much is and has been for even longer.

Look at all that heat, with no proper cooling solution to dissipate the thermal load and Intel's new 6 core laptop core i9 is not performing as well as the previous generation's core i7 quad core SKU.

Can we let some real engineers design laptops instead of some art design flunkies. Will this Form Factor over thermal functionality madness ever end!

According to the Register Article:

"Intel describes the six-core Core i9 as a "no compromises" chip aimed at gaming, VR and "next-level content creation". Intel has introduced a new feature intended for burst workloads, Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB), that adds 200Mhz of clock cycles to the standard 4.6Ghz of TurboBoost. Intel has said in briefings that TVB will run only if the processor temperature allows it to – below 50°C (122°F) – and that the processor speed may then drop in response to a temperature spike.

TVB, according to Intel (PDF), "opportunistically and automatically increases clock frequency by up to 200MHz if the processor is at a temperature of 50°C or lower and turbo power budget is available. The frequency gain and duration is dependent on the workload (best for bursty workloads), capabilities of the individual processor, and the processor cooling solution. Frequencies may reduce over time and longer workloads may start at the max frequency but drop as processor temperature increases." " (1)

Wow TVB(Thermal Velocity Boost) that's just another Marketing-Think buzzword that only fools would dare be impressed by. Opportunistic in markeing's name only as those Thin and Light Abominations are the root cause and the laptop OEM industry is so very very sick with this form of functionality sickness for a good many year now. That's some Next Level of functionality that has a 6 core i9 underperforming a previous generation quad core i7.

Buildzoid has got another Review(July 20, 2018) of a MB's "12 Phase" VRM claims and he calls out some even more Egregious Fibbing from the MB's Marketing specs. Now in addition to Laptop ThrottleGate we have MB VRM PhaseGate.

OMG the Gimping and Obfuscation to cover up the Gimping by the various MB/Laptop makers is reaching new hights! Also the PWM slight of hand from the MB's maker well that's taking it down even more!

Buildzoid's Actually Hardcore Overclocking's YouTube channel is bookmark worthy!

Wikichip's Fuse has an nice writeup on GF's 12nm Leading Performance process "nodelet"(1) shrink. So it's more of a transistor design tweaking that is also using a new 7.5T library for some slight density gains. So from GF's presentation at VLSI 2018 there is now more details on GF's 12nm process node as a drop-in replacment of sorts, with some GF transistor tweaks, for that 14nm/Licensed from Samsung node that GF was using.
