Subject: General Tech, Storage | April 22, 2011 - 03:24 PM |
Tagged: thermaltake, hdd, giveaway, contest

As you can no doubt tell, PC Perspective got a HUGE and much needed facelift last weekend to what we are internally calling "PC Perspective v4.0".  I know there are still some kinks to work out and we are actively addressing any feedback from our readers in this comment thread.

But we want to celebrate the launch of the new site in style!!  Some of our site sponsors have very generously offered up some prizes for us to give out throughout the coming days...

The fifth set of prizes is a pair of Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosures!

It has lights, it has fans AND it runs at USB 3.0 speeds.  What do you have to do to win this wonderful piece of hardware?

Couldn't be easier: post a comment in this post thanking Thermaltake for its sponsorship of PC Perspective as well as your plans for using such a cool USB 3.0 external drive dock.  What other features would you like to see on external enclosures like this?

You should probably have a registered account or at least be sure you include your email address in the appropriate field so we can contact you!

We will pick the winners tomorrow and move on to the next hardware that finds its way to PC Perspective offices.  Good luck and thanks for reading!!

Thanks Thermaltake and PC Perspective for hosting this great contest. At USB 3 speeds this will be a great addition to my upcoming WHS 2011 build for back up. Adjustable LED brightness and maybe different color choices would be neat.

Something anyone could use.
Thanks PCPer for all the computer and related information

Just have to say that you're doing a great job supporting PCPer! Keep up the awesome and reel-in the love Thermaltake!

A Super back-up of all of my desktops, laptops, and anything else I can cram into the thing... maybe even cookies!

I will be using it for backup on my soon to be new WHS2011 box

April 22, 2011 | 04:12 PM - Posted by Ron (not verified)

It looks more like a fancy fan with bluer lights behind to cool and soothe you when it is on. I would add firewire connection so Apple users can use it as a boot drive.

April 22, 2011 | 04:13 PM - Posted by Subsailor

Thanks Thermaltake! Any chance the lights can be turned off?

April 22, 2011 | 04:13 PM - Posted by Jeffrey (not verified)

Movies and TV seasons up the wazoo.

An external enclosure that looks awesome horizontal and vertical. I current have one external, and it looks stupid when I lay it horizontal, but it doesn't fit under the shelf I keep my monitor on when its upright.

April 22, 2011 | 04:13 PM - Posted by Filipe (not verified)

Thanks Thermaltake for sponsor PC Perspective. This external drive enclosure will be connected to my media player. I'll have lots of hours of movie and series action!

April 22, 2011 | 04:13 PM - Posted by Lou Davidson (not verified)

April 22, 2011 | 04:14 PM - Posted by Curtis (not verified)

thanks TT. it would be make my desk look high tech and allow me to backup all my files.

April 22, 2011 | 04:16 PM - Posted by Ceej64 (not verified)

OMG I want this so bad! DUAL fans with LEDs? My external hard drive is like my shrine. The terabyte of all of the movies, music, documents, game files, schoolwork and install files I have accumulated over years. It's like the digital DNA chronicle of my life. It is without exception the first thing I would take if there were a fire or tornado. In case of emergencies (I live in twister-town Texas!) I need SPEED as the worst storms seem to come with little warning, so I don't have time to sit and back up my drive at a slow speed--my new motherboard's USB 3.0 is what I need! Only thing that could make this better (I know this blasphemous) is eSATA support, since my laptop has eSATA but not USB 3.0 (but let's be real, I want the USB3!)

So thanks so much Thermaltake and PC Perspective, I really hope you'll choose me :)

April 22, 2011 | 04:19 PM - Posted by Tzzird

Cool :) Thanks Thermaltake!

Great Site.

April 22, 2011 | 04:29 PM - Posted by Mate (not verified)

Thank you very much, Thermaltake, for such a great gift. (:
I would use it as portable HDD for movies to watch on TV, or to share some large files with friends and carry them all around. Thank you once again.

April 22, 2011 | 04:36 PM - Posted by havik2k

Thanks Thermaltake for your support. I will use the portable HDD for backups. I would love to see an external enclosure with an additional outside dock for quick access to a hard drive sitting around.

April 22, 2011 | 04:37 PM - Posted by Theforgottenonex

Thanks for sponsoring PC Perspective, I love your products! If I were to win I would use the case to put my old hard drive in and get the files I need off it and then use it to hold all of my projects from school. I would also back up all my music and programs on it as well.

The drive enclosure would be used on my external harddrive in which the USB 3.0 will really boost the speed! :D
I hope benchmarking will be awesome! Yeah!
A cool feature would be Green/Red LED for displaying Free/Occupied space! And how about a splendid logo for gamers!
TTI has yet again upped the ante!

April 22, 2011 | 04:40 PM - Posted by Massdeth (not verified)

Thanx Thermaltake for the contest and your support throughout the industry!! As far as what I'd like to see on these external emclosures, is like to see a double 5" unit setup for a desktop size hdd *and* a desktop size optical!!! No one has one out there and the ability to do both like that would be awesome, especially since the newer mobo's are dropping legacy support for pci,IDE,etc... Anyway, that's my idea and good luck everyone with the contest!!

April 22, 2011 | 04:41 PM - Posted by Felipe Baptista (not verified)

Thanks Tt for sponsor PcPer! A little display in the external case showing inside temperature would be nice...

This external case combines wiht my Tt V3 black edition, for my music library.

Much love!

Thanks Thermaltake for sponsoring PCPer site and webcast. This will be a fast backup solution.

April 22, 2011 | 04:46 PM - Posted by Cannyone

Thanks for supporting PC Perspective Thermaltake. I really like this external Enclosure. The most attractive design elements of this unit are the USB 3.0 and the cooling fans. Nothing else, that I'm aware of, even comes close to being this slick!

April 22, 2011 | 04:49 PM - Posted by Grimdeath

Thanks Thermaltake! Thanks PCPer; together a great partnership!

April 22, 2011 | 04:49 PM - Posted by RushManiac

Thermaltake is da bomb baby..being serious..thanks for sponsoring PC Perspective..they deserve it!! I would absolutely love this enclosure since I have an old 160GB IO Gear USB device that I'm still using with my new USB 3.0 Gigabyte X58A-UD3R MOBO!! This would make my backups so much faster and the color/design scheme perfectly matches my blue led lights on my Coolermaster CM 690 case and fans! Some features would love to see is to have all three connectors available, USB 3, eSata & Fireware for more compatability!!

April 22, 2011 | 04:49 PM - Posted by dtkflex

Thank you very much for sponsoring PC Perspective.
This case looks very cool and would be a nice way to backup newer computers with USB 3.0 ports.

April 22, 2011 | 04:52 PM - Posted by Wormy (not verified)

Thanks Thermaltake for your support and sponsoring a great giveaway, I would use it for picture and video storage on our home network and anything else that would fit as my only system drive is 80gb and almost full lol. Something I would like to see is a wirelessdrive enclouser so its easy to access and dosent have to be stationary and could also be easley transported to a different location to share memories and other stuff with.

April 22, 2011 | 04:54 PM - Posted by TechKnow

Nice Thermaltake, real nice. Your support makes me more willing to bite the bullet on an armor a30.

I really like it when external enclosures are shaped to work well in tower form. I rarely ever buy just one enclosure. I usually end up with between 3 to 5, neatly stacked on one another or standing side by side, which ever takes up less space.

It would be cool if there were some modular symbiosis between drive enclosures like this and the towers you make.

April 22, 2011 | 04:58 PM - Posted by pingz7 (not verified)

Thank you Thermaltake for being so generous in sponsoring all the goodies.

Thanks to Thermaltake for sponsoring PCPer. If I win the Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure, I would use it to house a 2 TB hard drive and use them for backing up my blu-ray movies. A feature I would like to see on external enclosures is an LED screen on the front.

April 22, 2011 | 05:37 PM - Posted by Buyers (not verified)

I would use it as an external backup for family pictures... been needing one. It'll also give me an opportunity to use the new USB3 ports on the new family laptop. Thanks Tt for continuing for providing options for PC users.

A big "thank you" to Thermaltake for sponsoring PC Perspective and donating this cool Thermaltake Max 5G drive enclosure to be given away in celebration of the new PC Perspective web site. I'd throw a drive in the Thermaltake Max 5G and use it as an easy and stylish way to move massive home video files between my friends computers and mine. As for what other features I'd like on external drive enclosures like this... This one has pretty much everything I'd want, but I guess a couple of USB hub ports might come in handy.

April 23, 2011 | 02:27 AM - Posted by klatch

This is an impressive unit. I'm looking at the specs of it and I am impressed at the details already there, ie:capacity indicator and ability to turn led's off. If we could get a usb3 hub on a device like this in the future that would be awesome. Thanks for supporting PCPer Thermaltake! I'd probably use this as an enclosure for video editing and the like - I'd like to see how USB3 holds up for that.

April 23, 2011 | 02:37 AM - Posted by Daniel T (not verified)

Thank you Thermaltake. I want to get my 400GB hdd inside so i can use it properly. I go to work with hundreds of documents and pictures and i carry it inside a bag. This one would be amazing as a "coat" for my hard disk drive.
Other features? Well a sata port since it already has usb 3.0 and a converter from sata to ide would be nice as well.

April 23, 2011 | 03:24 AM - Posted by leobiendurana

This one's nice! Thanks for bringing this one up PCPERSPECTIVE! Much thanks to Thermaltake, for sponsoring our beloved site. This enclosure will really extend the life of my drive. I'll use it to safeguard my err... "Collections" teehee...

I would love Thermaltake to make full use of those LEDs. Maybe a little drive space indicator and fan controller+speed indicator will do. Thanks!

Thanks ;)

Thanks Thermaltake for sponsoring PC Per. This Will be used for my last external drive to be for HD Movies. And will complete my array of External HDD's. A display showing the Hard Drive name, size and remaining space would be cool as well as temperature. Not that temperature is likely to ever be a problem with such puuurrdy and awesome piece of hardware :)

The dual cooling system is ubercool! Also i had like to see an E-Sata port, E-Sata is a common nowadays.
Gimme a chance to awestruck my friends! :D

Thanks again Thermaltake!

I really don't know what I would use this enclosure for. I don't have USB 3 yet.

I suppose I'll just have to upgrade the whole computer.

Once again, you have proven that you are the company that gives back to the community that reveres you so. Well done and Congratulations!

Oh, and thank you for partnering with PC Perspective and giving us readers an opportunity to join in a contest like this.

If I was to obtain an enclosure like that, I will definitely use it for my daily backups. Currently, my external backups are done via USB 2.0, and as you can imagine it seriously slows down the pc. However, with a USB 3.0 enabled enclosure, lets just say I'll be able to minimize the time taken for backups and be able to use my PC with minimum distractions :)

As for what other features I'd like to add, you can't quite fix perfection, but if I was really finicky, I'd like a small wedge lever I can pull which pushes a small flap that will push out dust particles that are bound to get sucked between the fan grill :))

Thanks Thermaltake for supporting PCPER. I love the PCPER podcast. Josh always finds a way to crack me up! I would use this to move large tv shows from my htpc to my editing machine. USB 3.0 would be much faster than my wireless network. How about a docking system so the unit can be plugged into multiple machine by only moving the case? USB 3.0 is the most important, though...
