Steve reviewed the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 back in May and was so impressed he gave it a Gold Award. The Y510p is a similar laptop with a 1080p display, an i7-4700MQ, a 2GB GT750M, 8GB DDR3-1600 and a 1TB 5400 RPM with a 24GB SSD for an extra speed boost.  All of these combine to give you a great performing gaming laptop with a unique look.

Based on paper specs alone, that's a hell of a good laptop for the price.

Anyone own one of these chime in on build quality? Internet is ranting that the keyboard and touchpad on this suck donkey. How's the screen, etc? How easy is it to *upgrade* to Win 7? Is there a full SSD + HD option?

I got mine about two weeks ago. I think the build quality is amazing. The keyboard is great. The track-pad is pretty good but it isn't great for one handed drag and drop. Lenovo/NVIDEA included an option to have the cursor to continue once you get to the edge of the track-pad but two handed use will suffice. all this will be solved by using a wireless mouse. Anyone who thinks you need a touch screen for windows 8 is incorrect. All the swipe actions can be done with the mouse or teak-pad. Gaming on this device has been good so far. I haven't done a lot of gaming but I've played a little Deus Ex (not the latest game) from steam with really smooth graphics. If you unplug the laptop the second gpu shuts down and the first underclocks so don't plan on gaming without the power brick or an external battery pack (they sell some good ones on amazon with over 300,000 mAhs. That being said my only real complait about this laptop is the battery life. I was planning on taking it to class in college but it might be hard with the battery life. The thickness and weight for this gaming rig is phenomenal. Its no ultrabook but it isn't bad by any means.
