Juicy Friday rumour; a mysterious Blackberry device running Android?

Could this Reuters' story that Slashdot linked to possibly be correct?  A phone with a physical keyboard using Blackberry hardware with an Android OS?  The fact that you have been able to set up the Google Play store on BB10 devices for a while now is well known and lends credence to the rumour but it would represent a huge change for the long suffering smartphone company.  Blackberry opened up BBM to all phones, which did not generate much interest and the company has also announced that it will make some of its proprietary security feature available to iOS, Android and Windows phones which makes their devices a little less unique.  A slider style phone with a keyboard that is natively Android is interesting but just how likely is this to restore Blackberry as a player in this highly competitive market?

Thinking out loud-

That it's Android means it can do some open source.

That it's Google means that you're open to Google.

Blackberry was once known as a phone with good security.

Well, it was a thought.

When BlackBerry started to go down hill. I thought of an idea that the company could do.

This was my idea, keep the old BlackBerry phones and OS for who wanted them, but also come out with a new phone.

Something like the Z10 and Z30 but better. Make the phone black with the logo RED with Android on it and call it the redberry.

All Blackberry phone with the Android OS would have the RED logo and the one with the BLACK logo Blackberry OS. But put the security in the Redberry.

Would be good.

While I would I love to see a Blackberry phone with Android installed, I surely hope that they do not abandon the BB10 platform. The simple fact is, it is secure. I expect there are some (probably not many) who use a Blackberry simply for the security of the device. However, I think some would appreciate the hardware and physical keyboard of the Blackberry with the additional function of Android and all it offers.

Furthermore, I don't see a point to Blackberry offering a full touch screen device in this form factor, the market is fully saturated with every size, spec, and price range for this. Something like the Passport with its high resolution display would be a winner.

These are my thoughts on the matter.
