It's a bad day to be Ballmer

The future of Windows RT and the Surface tablet are bleak, maybe bleaker than you think as Microsoft made $853 million in sales on the non-Pro Surface.  That number is lower than the hit that Microsoft's prospective sales took in lowering the price of the Surface by $150.  Acer warned them a year ago that they should stick with software and ASUS has just announced that they have no interest in making any more Surface devices until demand appears.  You can see the actual numbers of the immense loss for Microsoft that Surface created at The Register.  If that wasn't bad enough, British courts have ruled that Microsoft can not use the term SkyDrive for their online storage solution anymore.

"Got that? Microsoft spent more in a single year advertising the Windows 8 and Surface launches than it took in from Surface sales that same year."

Surface is nothing more than an overpriced, underpowered laptop. There are far better alternatives, complete with touch screens, more storage and ram, and obviously much faster processors at half the price. The only reason the tablet business model works for Apple is they invented it and have built up a lot of hype around it.

It also doesn't hurt that an Apple laptop is still a lot more money than an ipad so someone who only wants an Apple product is almost forced to buy the ipad for budget reasons.

The first thing I said when I first saw Surface RT was
"TOO expensive". They though that they where Apple (never bought anything from them), and that they could sell high. Big, big, HUGE, mistake. They killed Windows RT with that stupid move. On the other hand, Google was more modest, and the end result is Nexus doing just fine and Nexus 2 will do even better.

I never understood why Microsoft came out with Surface in the first place. They should have left tablet market to their partners instead of dipping their big toe in the tech waters.

Ballmer should have also not tried to stick it to the Millions of desktop users, But he did, and we are stuck with one crappy UI in W8, and just like the sales of M$ craptacular new OS, there goes with it, the sales of the equally craptacular surface! Ballmer you sure can Pinch off some Really Tremendous(RT) piles of smelly CaCa! Surface RT Like, TIFKAM on the desktop, is the next Zune/ME M$ fiasco, bound for the dump!

Are OEMs forced to use Win8? Can they at least add a Win7 version of their pc's and laptops?

Ive held off on buying two new notebooks because everything seems to come only with win 8 and I think it's retarded that I would have to buy Win 7 then go through hassle of reloading os, hunting down drivers and going through all the system patches.

I gave win8 a solid two months of use and you know what? win8 f@cking sucks.

I'm not the only one I know who has heldback buying new hardware SPECIFICALLY because it comes with win8.

NO!M$ just made a crappy OS with built in adware, and like ME/Vista, windows 8 is pure crap! No apple sheep here, just folks avoiding closed gardens! Apple, closed garden, M$ with W8, W8.1 , more closed than Apple! My new laptop came with windows 7 installed, and some windows 8 brand plastic coasters, or floor guards for that heavy sofa, or 98 other uses, but never on my computers! TIFKAM is Monkey Boy's TIFSCAM!

If yoou are an art lover with eclectic taste, think about a
