Check out the video for a look at the various in game enhancements that NVIDIA's new feaures will be bringing to FarCry 4 and gaze in awe at that gorgeous yak featured at 1:37, just look at its hair waving in the breeze and reacting to the motions of the animal.  It is not clear if AMD's TressFX will provide equivalent body and shine to the beasts that HairWorks does but you have to admit that is an impressive amount of work to make meat on the hoof look pretty.  There are two different technologies to improve the look of shadows, Percentage Closer Soft Shadows (PCSS, aka ShadowWorks) softens the edges of shadows based on the distance between the object creating the shadow and the surface the shadow appears on while Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion (HBAO+) is a new and efficient way to render ambient lighting and shadows accurately without paying for it with a big hit in performance.  Temporal anti-aliasing, TXAA is reputed to offer the benefits of MSAA 8x at the performance cost of 4x; while it is hard to judge the accuracy of that in the video you can certainly see it is an effective way of removing jaggies from straight edges.  You can also expect to see God Rays rendered properly, the shot of the sun through the tree near the end makes a rather nice set peice to display that effect.

Below you can see the recommended hardware, it is worth emphasizing that only 64bit OSes need apply on the PC.

Beware of hairy tigers...

Looking good, but I wonder how much juice it takes from actual rendering. Btw is there a way to use dedicated gpu for some of those compute effects i.e. hairworks or do you have to use your main gpu for that too.

Unless the tiger is a big part of the game. Its another effect gimmick like all other PhysX effect.

Which should tell us all Ubisoft is not at all interested in updating its Dunia Engine from 2006 but rather rely on external visual gimmick. Just tossing in higher textures more particals on an aweful PC port.

12yrs later and re-using out dated game engine to give us a bad PC port. On top of it throw extra crap effect that will slow the bad port even further.

Marketing gold for sure.

Ubisoft has pulled all upcoming games from steam. So god knows what's going to happen with all those pre-orders people got etc.
This is just another stupid move by ubisoft.

It's looking like i'm gona have to turn down settings quite a bit, A10-6700 with a r7-260 (just a renamed hd-7770) so I'm probably stuck in 1680x1050 lowest or 1024x768 medium, BUTTTTTTTT first time I played Far Cry 3 was on apu only. 800x600 lowest settings, and it was BEAUTIFUL! True it looks better, SOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER the more gpu power you can throw at it but the minimum was actually pretty good.

So no, I'm not gona have realistic yak hair, and if I want to see "god-light" I'm gona have to go out side and find a tree on a sunny day, but I can guarantee I will be completely consumed by this game till mid 2015. I will skin tigers in my sleep, I will stand in subway cars and plan my take down chain on the other passengers, and I will spend countless hours tweeking settings so I can get a perfect 30fps in single player, 60fps in multi. I will live eat sleep and breath this game at the best possible settings I can. And if the CPU is just not good enough, then it will be time to build!

UNLESSSSSSSSSSS, I mean why even mention it, but it's possible, in the worst case scenario....... its possible that Ubisoft shit the bed and the game sucks. I mean wolfenstien nwo for example has very cool gamplay, graphics are dope, but the second half of the story ruined it for me, completely ruined. It had soo much potential, the Super Nazi world is so cool (in a living hell kinda way), the resistance is so great, but from the point that you enter the concentration camp, find a man with a HORRIBLE Yiddish accent (as a Jewish person, (my great grandfather was the only holocaust survivor from his whole family) I know, we all know there wouldn't be a single one of us left in Nazi world. period.) who tells you of ancient jewish techno magic and you take down the whole camp with a shiv then go to space and wipe out a moon base and BLA BLA BLA the whole story goes to shit. It is possible, it has happened before that no matter how good it plays, no mater how good it looks, it's just eye candy with no substance. So now it's not about how good it will look on my system, it's fear of failure on their part.

I'm just woried cuz I'm super excited FAR CRY 4!!!!!!!!!!!!
