Blue Security, the little start-up company in Isreal that touted some innovative anti-spam technology, has officially closed its doors. After the massive DoS attack unleashed by a spammer in early May that shut down servers around the Internet, including those of Tucows, Blue Security decided it can not morally take the burden of indirectly causing the collateral damage resulting from escalating spam retaliation.

While it appears that the spammers have won this round, the technology developed by Blue Security proves that it is possible to effectively shut down a spammer. If a start-up can do it, imagine a concerted effort by governments and private organizations around the world. Let’s hope this loss is just a bump in the road for more effective anti-spam strategies.

“In an interview with Wired News, Blue Security CEO Eran Reshef said the Israel-based company was closing its service Wednesday since he did not want to be responsible for an ever-escalating war that could bring down internet service providers and websites around the world and subject its users to denial-of-service attacks from a well-organized group in control of a massive army of computer drones.”
