G-SYNC HDR Monitors see $200 Price Cut at Microcenter

This morning, while searching for retail availability of G-SYNC HDR monitors, we came across a sale at Microcenter, already discounting these newly released high-end displays.

Both the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ (which we reviewed a few weeks ago), and the Acer Predator X27 are available for $1800 at the time of writing, a $200 discount from MSRP.

In addition to what looks like plenty of stock in our local store, these monitors are also available for the same price from the Microcenter Web Store and able to be shipped anywhere in the US. This is unusual as generally, Microcenter sale prices, like their deep discounts on CPUs, aren't available through their online store.

Obviously, retailers are at their own discretion to discount products, so don't take this as guidance from NVIDIA, Acer, or ASUS as Microcenter seems to be the only retailer offering this price. Still, a 10% price discount on premium products like these, shortly after launch isn't exactly a good sign for sales numbers.

Even at $1,800, we would still say that these monitors are too expensive to recommend, but a 10% discount is nice on what we consider to be the highest quality PC gaming monitor on the market.

Probably returns from buyers not appreciating shoddy Acer/Asus QA (tbf a lot of this is also to blame on AU Optronics' panel lottery) and fan noise.

Through my (very) quick search, I can't seem to find any Microcenter stores listing Open Box stock for either of these monitors, so either they aren't being returned en masse or they are going back to the manufacturers.

Thanks for the additional info.

I've had a few "new" products from retailers shipped which clearly were opened before, does that not happen at Microcenter?

1 of 2 positive reviews.

The guy who left the positive review apparently is on drugs being transported to a different dimension and doesn't apparently want to look at his desktop.

The other reviewer seamed sober and gave it 1 star. He returned it and said to wait for v2.0 until the issues are resolved and price is lower.

Needs to get down to 25% of its original price before I even consider it and frankly the 422 makes this not worth it.

25% of original price? Lol, okay.

Next up I want -5 cents a gig. People ought to pay me instead.

Some adjustment of expectations required... Given the tech involved £1000 would probably be selling at damn-near a loss. Just don't buy G-Sync displays and you already skip the £500 needed for their ridiculous FPGA module.

In Switzerland you can get it together with a Asus GTX 1080ti O11 in a bundle for almost the same price like in the rest of europe.

Warning, don’t buy these monitors, a fool who buy lottery for 2000$.
Even these monitors have QC issue like dead/stuck pixels .... bleed...
We need a QC guarantee of 0 dead stuck pixel , 0 backlight bleed 0 dust, 0 ips glow.
What a bullshit you need to sell us a 2000$ monitor with no QC guaranteed.
AUO you are the devil
