If you decide on a IPS LCD as opposed to the more common TN variety, you obviously care more about proper colour replication that you do your bank account.  ASUS seems to have aimed for a middle ground with their 24" 1920×1200 PA246Q ProArt IPS LCD which you can get for under $500.  Could ASUS pull off the low price without sacrificing quality?
