Today is the day the curtain is pulled back and the performance of NVIDIA's Turing based consumer cards is revealed. If there was a benchmark, resolution or game that was somehow missed in our review then you will find it below, but make sure to peek in at the last page for a list of the games which will support Ray Tracing, DLSS or both!
The Tech Report found that the RTX 2080 Ti is an amazing card to use if you are playing Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice as it clearly outperforms cards from previous generations as well as the base RTX 2080. In many cases the RTX 2080 matches the GTX 1080 Ti, though with the extra features it is an attractive card for those with GPUs several generations old. There is one small problem for those looking to adopt one of these cards, we have not seen prices like these outside of the Titan series before now.
"Nvidia's Turing architecture is here on board the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, and we put it through its paces for 4K HDR gaming with some of today's most cutting-edge titles. We also explore the possibilities of Nvidia's Deep Learning Super-Sampling tech for the future of 4K gaming. Join us as we put Turing to the test."

Pretty bad propositions as
Pretty bad propositions as they stand. Oh well, have to wait for Nvidia’s greed to play itself out until an actual attractive update, which will no doubt be mid-sized 7nm dies sold as high-end for as long as they can get away with that. The more we learn the details about this stuff the less attractive it is to have enthusiasm about any of it.
So basically no performance
So basically no performance gain per dollar and sites still dare to recommend it. That’s really sad
I don’t think RTX 2000 series
I don’t think RTX 2000 series is bad. They offer similar performance jump from GTX 1000 compared to GTX 1000 jump from GTX 900. What is problematic here is price. It is more expensive than GTX 1000 was at launch. So once again, there are no bad products, there are only bad priced.
no, relatively speaking, the
no, relatively speaking, the performance has decreased while the price has increased, when we’re comparing generations. its a double whammy, and a big one at that.
Last generation, the 1070 offered similar performance to the 980ti, at half the cost. Jump ahead to this generation, and what we’re seeing is the 2080, a whole jump up in the traditional nomenclature, offering similar performance to the 1080ti, but yet costing even more. so no, the performance gains are not comparable and the price differences, whether justified or not, are staggering.
fwiw, I don’t think RTX is bad either. On the contrary. Im quite anxious. Anxious and concerned. Clearly, ray tracing offers significant gains in visual fidelity, and Im genuinely excited to see this technology widely adopted. However, now is not that time, and Im concerned that Nvidia, whether by necessity and/or over indulgence, have made the costs of these advancements to steep and consumers wont be able to shoulder the burden. but hey, what do I know? back to vidya games mom! hotpockets! now!!!
I’m afraid to ask, but has
I’m afraid to ask, but has anyone seen benchmarks for mining? It does have an OBSCENE amount of compute for 250w tdp…….
As long as reviews compare
As long as reviews compare models by price. So 1070 to 2060, 1080 to 2070 and 1080ti to 2080. Normally we should expect a new generation to provide better performance at a lower price point. So given this resonable metric we get around a zero performance per dollar increase.
These are probably the last
These are probably the last big, monolithic gpus before they are forced to make them from multiple smaller chips due to low yields. Nvidia does seem like they have deliberately held back on multi-gpu support. Good multi-gpu software support would help AMD. Also, Nvidia doesn’t want you to be able to use multiple older or smaller/cheaper cards to reach the same performance as one of their ridiculously expensive high end cards with much higher profit margins. This is just like Intel holding the market back by keeping the mainstream 2 and 4 core when we should have had 8 core mainstream parts years ago. It is unclear what form multi-chip gpu cards will take. I would expect it to be built to take advantage of DX12, rather than having every game engine needing to hack in multi-gpu support independently in some manner. Nvidia has also held back DX12 adoption since it also helps AMD more than it helps them.
I don’t intend to buy anything from either Nvidia or Intel. I am building a Ryzen system shortly. I don’t know what video card I will use, but since I am not much of a gamer, I don’t really have to care much about it.

WOW the amount of wailing and
WOW the amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth and sure the Prices are Sky High it’s Nvidia the Next Generation, and you will pay to play!
Want Better performance at a lower price get a GTX 1080Ti and wait for it, wait for it, Navi will only be for the mainstream market! So Nvidia is only competing with Nvidia at this point in time! If you already have a GTX 1080Ti then get another and dual GPU game at even higher FPS.
AMD will make more bank than Nvidia with those Epyc sales alone and not having to invest so much in Flagship Gaming is just great by AMD, what with all that Epyc revenue dosh incomimg. AMD is happy letting Nvidia push higher Nvidia’s their GPU’s MSRPs/ASPs so AMD can charge more and still beat Nvidia on the pricing front. Lisa Su and AMD’s investors will cheer on Nvidia’s higher prices because that’s still means AMD can price its GPU SKUs a little higher and still undercut Nvidia’s pricing! More Dosh for Both AMD and Nvidia!
Gaming addicts gwan to get their Fix and pay that price for their drug of choice gaming title addiction. They even have lootboxes to milk the little compulsive gits for even more profits.
Nvidia is jacken them prices Sky High and is take it or leave it for all the scrubs down in broke town! JJH says here are some Nvidia branded tiddlywinks to go and play with until you make with the Dosh for any RTX, Babies!
Hey Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, give me a Skyhook boost so I can make a grab at them Nvidia RTX prices! Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: NO, SkyHook yourself some Hustle just like Bill Russell and make it on your own!
