Windows 10 is much better at dealing with multithreaded tasks but Linux has been optimized for both high core counts and NUMA for quite a while, so looking at the performance difference is quite interesting. Phoronix tested a variety of Linux flavours as well as Windows 10 Pro and the performance differences are striking, in some cases we see results twice as fast on Linux as Win10. That does not hold true for all tests as there are some benchmarks which Windows excels at. Take a look at this full review as well as those under the fold for a fuller picture.

All that interesting news pouring out of Hot Chips and this Windows versus Linux news is already been hashed over days ago.
TR2 needs an optimization period for the OS makers to work things out but really TR2 and NUMA runs better on Linux and who the Hell needs all of M$’s Candy Crush of CPU cycles stealing bloatware/spyware and forced updates that bork things just when production workloads need to be finsihed. F__K you M$ and Your Windows 10 crapware fest.
And WTF is up with the Phoronix Website and annoying ads and damn High CPU usage across 4 cores/8 threads. I know that webpages loading can spike the CPU usage but on Phoronix lately that high CPU usage is constant to the point where I’m no longer going there without the ad blockers turned on.
It’s the Year Of the Annoying ads and higher than normal CPU usage in the browser for thsoe that stray onto the Phoronix website lately and I have taken to just reading any Phoronix raleted posts if someone over at r/AMD or other reddit forum mentions the Related Phoronix article. Those Damn Dizznee World Ads floating over the forum posts so they can not be read was the last straw in that madness!

You realize, the Bash exploit, ShellShock existed in some form since 1989. It was found in 2014?
There is no one to protect us from malicious updates. Linux/Gnu is made of tens? of thousands of pieces of software.
If Linux through some fad, became prominent, it would be so malware ridden, Windows XP(w/o SPs) would look more secure.
You know when you install a package in you distro… There is almost literally no one behind the curtain protecting you. Its just unicorns and ponies…

If you need top security, review the code & compiling it yourself is the best approach.
No need to trust anybody, or any corporation, in Linux.

Hardware Unboxed on Youtube also did a quick compare of TR 2990wx on Windows 10 & Linux. The TR CPU seen some huge gains in some of his tests on the Linux test bed machine. Then again so did the Intel 18 core CPU but not to the same degree as the TR CPU did.
He normally does not do anything Linux related so it he had a lot of tests done but probably not to the same degree as a site that does Linux on a much bigger scale. It seems the Windows 10 plat form could use some tweaks by MS to handle high core count CPU’s a lot better than it does now. Then again this is probably true for all the Windows versions. Microsoft has said there is a patch/update coming that should address the TR 2990wx performance problems on Windows 10 and it probably will also enhance the high core count Intel CPU’s as well to some degree.
Then again even if they do get more performance from the Tr 2990wx in Windows 10 in those areas where it fell on it’s face the quad channel memory and not having 2 of the CPU dies hooked up directly to the memory bus will probably still cause performance issues to some degree no matter how much they try to update and patch the software.
