Sennheiser's GSX 1000 is an external USB 24-bit/96 kHz DAC, using Sennheiser's own 7.1 Binaural Rendering Engine with a headphone amp and a line-out port to connect to active speakers. The only difference between the GSX 1000 and the 1200 is that you will not be able to daisy chain multiple DACs together, a feature not many of us need. TechPowerUp were more than impressed with the sound, but the DAC fell short of perfection as you cannot modify the preset equalizer choices nor disable the noise cancellation on the mic jack; both of which should be possible on an audio device of this price.
"The Sennheiser GSX 1000 Audio Amplifier is a beautiful external USB sound card equipped with the best 7.1 virtual surround sound system we've heard so far, and a host of other interesting features primarily aimed towards hardcore gaming."

The problem with it is the
The problem with it is the 150 ohm part, No good for anything over which rules out most decent cans that are 300-600 ohm.
It’s not loud enough on the amp side, The DAC is fine though.
I hope Sennheiser releases a future model that adds support for 300 or even 600 ohms on the amp side.
And them headphones you speak
And them headphones you speak off are not aimed at gamers. I use the GSX with Philips Fidelio X1 rated only 32 ohm and they are a perfect match. Highly rated headphones
ohm is only part of the story and is by no means the selling point of headphones.!
They is loads of highly recommended headphones that fall under the 150ohm rating.
May as well use your onboard
May as well use your onboard audio then!
Anything “gamer” is crap with pretty colours, Been there and done that the hard way, Never again.
People don’t get this, and
People don’t get this, and maybe you still won’t after my comment, but gaming headsets are not meant to be very high quality headphones. Most of them are just decent headphone with added like wireless audio, microphone with quick mute functionality, etc.. Just because they’re not aimed at audiophiles doesn’t mean they don’t have a purpose, same with this device.
It is a decent amp and dac with added benefits like quickly changing audio sources, microphone noise removal, surround sound, quick profiles and more. It is a seriously amazing device aimed at gamers.

The more I see Sennheiser
The more I see Sennheiser fart out nasty gamer/’lifestyle’ crap, the more askance I look at their normal line of professional products. This piece of blingy shit doesn’t even get line output level correct! 1VRMS is NOT an acceptable line output voltage, either use 0.3VRMS for consumer kit or pretend to be ‘professional’ and use 1.23VRMS, but don’t just pick some value in the middle!
