Gigabyte have shrunk the GTX 1080 into a tiny little package 17cm long, retaining the dual slot design to ensure you still have the connectivity options you expect.
Even with its small stature and 90mm fan, the card is no slowpoke. Setting it to Gaming Mode gives the standard 1733/1607MHZ Boost/BAse and there is an OC mode which will raise those clocks to 1771/1632MHz.
There is no stock at the moment, which is also true the GTX 1070 and 1060 models which have already been released. Those two are not sold at a large premium over their bigger twins so once prices have descended from the stratosphere and supply begins to accumulate again the tiny 1080 shouldn't carry a large premium.

So this is more not available until it is. And what about the VRAM size on this SKU? That: “There is no stock at the moment” appeares to concern some released Vega GPUs also and I guess this GTX 1080 will go up against the Vaga NANO in the market once that product is in stock also.
With all the rumors about a Nvidia VRAM/cost influnced price increase and the desirability of this form factor I’d expect that the pricing on this SKU is going to be higher also if the demand is there. Nvidia has got that ROP/TMU with very little excess compute ratio pegged compared to AMD’s Vega but Maybe AMD can get a Vega 56 based Nano and some games optimized for more 16 bit Rapid Packed Math on the market with AMD maybe partnering with some games makers to produce a few FP16 bit tuned gaming titles and be able to compete that way.
That is unless the Vega Nano is already a specilized Vega Variant with sufficient compute removed. Because Vega 56 already closely matches the GTX 1080 in ROP counts with the Vaga 56 having a little more TMU resources than the GTX 1080. Hopefully AMD’s Epyc/Radeon WX/Radeon instinct revenue streams are beginniong to roll in and give Raja/RTG the funds to create a more gaming only focused Vaga variant with even more compute removed than even the Vega 56 has removed. Vega 56 in this form factor would be popular also so hopefully the AIB folks are already planning somthing similar.
Only problem with the vega
Only problem with the vega mini is to reach 1080 speeds in this size you’d have to set the temp limit to like 200C as a cooler this small could never hope to tame it. Saw gamers nexus do some tests and even decent cooling with a 400w power draw to get the clock high enough to match a good 1080 it took a 360 rad to tame the vega 56 with vega it responds to clocks and in this size cooling is a major issue. Compute units make tons of heat and add little to gaming loads where cards this small sell. RX Vega is designed solely for sale with epyc servers where it shines the 56 is the only competitive option but amd is dead even or losing on every unit of that thing with the high costs of hbm and that epic vrm which are both mandatory for this to even come close to nvidia. Sadly radeon will need a redesign of the architecture to ever touch nvidia in the gaming upper echelons they are doing well in server, budget, and workstation performance but in gaming nvidia has hit the sweet spot with current game engine design.

Nobody is buying 1080 for mining unless he/she is desperate. 1080 is much worse at mining than much cheaper (nominally at least…) 1070. Prices&stock of 1080 are relatively stable unlike 1060 6GB, 1070 and 1080Ti.
I like the ideas of Gigabyte, however without waterblock option its just curiosity to me. If mini then Zotac-mini gets my vote simply because its equipped with block straight out of factory.

So essentially gigabyte took the 180/200? tdp mxm gpu for laptops added a pcie 3.0 adapter, video outs, and power connectors and slapped a cut down of their windforce cooler on it so temps will keep this near stock speeds but as a mini itx card this is nice as you can pretty much put this in anything that will take a 2 slot card so there is a market for it. This is a n upgrade for people with say the mini fury x or short 960/970 in a mini itx case it can also be for the people with the 1060/70 but cost prohibitive.
