The GT 1030 quietly launched from a variety of vendors late yesterday amidst the tsunami of AMD announcements. The low profile card is advertised as offering twice the performance of the iGPU found on Intel Core i5 processors and in many cases is passively cooled. From the pricing of the cards available now, expect to pay around $75 to $85 for this new card.
EVGA announced a giveaway of several GTX 1030s at the same time as they released the model names. The card which is currently available retails for $75 and is clocked at 1290MHz base, 1544 MHz boost and has 384 CUDA Cores. The 2GB of GDDR5 is clocked a hair over 6GHz and runs on a 64 bit bus providing a memory bandwidth of 48.06 GB/s. Two of their three models offer HDMI + DVI-D out, the third has a pair of DVI-D connectors.
Zotac's offering provides slightly lower clocks, a base of 1227MHz and boost of 1468MHz however the VRAM remains unchanged at 6GHz. It pairs HDMI 2.0b with a DVI slot and comes with a low profile bracket if needed for an SFF build.
MSI went all out and released a half dozen models, two of which you can see above. The GT 1030 AERO ITX 2G OC is actively cooled which allows you to reach a 1265MHz base and 1518MHz boost clock. The passively cooled GT 1030 2GH LP OCV1 runs at the same frequency and fits in a single slot externally, however you will need to leave space inside the system as the heatsink takes up an additional slot internally. Both are fully compatible with the Afterburner Overclocking Utility and its features such as the Predator gameplay recording tool.
Last but not least are a pair from Gigabyte, the GT 1030 Low Profile 2G and Silent Low Profile 2G cards. The the cards both offer you two modes, in OC Mode the base clock is 1252MHz and boost clock 1506MHz while in Gaming Mode you will run at 1227MHz base and 1468MHz boost.
I wouldn’t think use cases
I wouldn’t think use cases that require low profile cards also facilitate passive cooling.
You’d be suprised: most
You’d be suprised: most business machines with LP slots will have a dedicated fan, as they know they will be used with passive cards (invariable the machines will be offered with low-end passive Quadros as a BTO option anyway).
You can get a 2nd hand Lenovo
You can get a 2nd hand Lenovo or Dell business desktop with a sandy bridge/ivy bridge or newer for under $300. Slap this in it and go to town on some videos.
Concur. Those off-lease
Concur. Those off-lease “refurb” business PCs are crazy cheap currently, especially ones with the much hated Windows 8. You can buy a whole i5 system with Windows 8.1 Pro for less than the msrp cost of the OS alone. At that price point (under $300 including add-on gpu), your competitors are things like chromebooks and tablets and gaming consoles.
You’d still be better off
You’d still be better off buying an RX 560 or 1050 instead though, until the 550 and 1030 reach $50 they won’t make too much sense to buy
the 4GB 1030 is a decent compute card for some tasks though I guess
GT 1030 pulls a max of 30w.
GT 1030 pulls a max of 30w. Obviously a 1050 is nicer, but on a lot of these anemic SFF computers, an extra 75w of headroom is just not there. These PCs also frequently have non-standard OEM power supplies (or, God help us, even a laptop-style brick on a cord), so adding more power isn’t just swapping some plugs.
No one had trouble
No one had trouble recommending a 750ti / R7 250-360 when that was a thing, those systems usually have 300W PSUs, even 200W is enough for a 75W GPU.
This video describes very
This video describes very well why for the vast majority of people that low end discrete cards like the 1030 are a waste of money for the price.

Except that, you know, the gt
Except that, you know, the gt 1030 has 384 cuda cores(The exact same number of cores on the gtx 650), which is ideal for Esports games such as Overwatch, Counter-Strike, LOL, Dota, etc. It should also be able to play the newer games at lower settings. Plus, the card only consumes 30 watts at max, which is ideal for weaker power supplies. Say all you want, but the gt 1030 has it’s uses.
Except that, you know, you
Except that, you know, you should read and comprehend before becoming so defensive.
and I quote:
“This video describes very well why for the vast majority of people that low end discrete cards like the 1030 are a waste of money for the price.”
IT’S THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET, that is the issue.
People seem to forget that
People seem to forget that everyone has different wants/needs. There’s way too much of the ‘I don’t like it/I don’t have a use for it so no one else should like it either’ attitude.
A couple years ago I bought one of these cheap and completely useless type cards for a system so slow I couldn’t even stream 720p online video. And with my new cheap and completely useless waste of money video card I was able to actually use that computer like a real computer again. So I also see the value in cards like these.
Again, someone else who does
Again, someone else who does not read and comprehend before posting.
Read my post again, and then watch teh video all the way from beginning to end, don’t skip any parts.
It’s not about if the card has a use or not, it’s about the price you pay for what you get, that is why they are a waste of money.
Oh look, someone who doesn’t
Oh look, someone who doesn’t understand what ‘waste of money’ means talking about someone else not being able to read and comprehend things.
I’m honestly glad people like you are still here, I was worried that getting rid of the non-account commenting would stop most of the trolling. It’s nice to see there’s still a healthy amount of it. So thank you for helping to fill that vital role.
I’m going to agree with

I’m going to agree with funandjam and say the 1030 is just too expensive for the performance you receive. If you watch carefully, you can find the 1050 for $90-95 AR. Here’s a LP MSi rx-460 for $79:
Yes, the 1030 has its use-cases. A guy bought an NVidia gtx 470 from me a month ago – he has a use-case for that GPU, too. Still doesn’t mean it’s a good deal.
Sure, 1050/Ti gets you a lot
Sure, 1050/Ti gets you a lot more performance for not much more money, IF it fits in your case, and IF it doesn’t require a power supply replacement. There are millions of computers out there that require a low-profile, single-slot gpu with extremely low power draw (power supplies in the 180-220w area). You can drop a gpu like this into almost any small form factor “business” pc (which are basically given away in the refurbished market when they come off lease), and have a functional HTPC or a second PC for the kids.

1050 Ti Lowprofile, no extra power required.
That is a two-slot card, many
That is a two-slot card, many SFF cases (stupidly) position the only gpu slot right on the edge of the case so it can only take a skinny card that is one slot, usually because they put some vent holes there for it to exhaust through. (I’m looking at you Acer…)
1050ti also is listed as pulling 75w of power, more than double the 1030’s max power consumption. Just because the 1050/ti lacks an extra power plug does not mean it will run properly on systems with these miserly 180-240w power supplies… and there are millions of those out there.
For the sake of conversation
For the sake of conversation will these boost render time in Premiere for a i7-7700 (non-k) system with no video card currently present, since you could use CUDA acceleration.
Bought it.. My dell SFF has
Bought it.. My dell SFF has only 180W PSU.. no other modern card did fit in it.. i mean pascals… I had only 35 W to spare.. so the cards perfect.. on my 768p monitor, i can play gta 5 at ultra to high settings.. mass effect Andromeda, medium , over 50 fps,, deus X 40 fps medium
I actually purchased a 1050ti
I actually purchased a 1050ti card only to later discover that it would not fit into my sff Dell computer due to interference with the PSU. My Dell sff computer could only use a true single slot card, i.e. gt 1030. I suspect there are many many folks out there who run into this issue. Yes, it would be nice to use the GTX 1050ti card if it would fit into my case, but alas, not so!!! Thus, the gt 1030 is not only cost effective, but my only option if I am to use the best single slot GPU card available today for my application.
I dont understand why people
I dont understand why people hate this card so much. I mean you pair it with an i5 2400 and 8gb ram and you a budget killer than can run arma 3 on med. I’ve been running benchmarks and tests and this looks like the best bang for your buck gpu on the market. You can run Gta V on high at 70 fps, siege at 30 fps (med) and Nfs Payback at 40fps across the board.
