Acer has announced "the world's first notebook with a curved screen", and this panel happens to be attached to a very high-end gaming laptop in the Predator 21 X.
In addition to the 2560×1080 curved 21-inch display, the new machine also offers Tobii eye-tracking technology, Intel 7th Generation "Kaby Lake" processors, and (last but not least) dual NVIDIA GTX 1080 GPUs in SLI.
"The Predator 21 X takes the flagship spot in Acer’s gaming notebook series and is advanced beyond anything on the market today. It’s the world’s first notebook to offer a curved 21-inch IPS display (2560 x 1080), and when combined with wide-angle viewing, it delivers a truly immersive gaming experience.
To bring gameplay immersion to the next level, the notebook also integrates Tobii eye-tracking technology for a new method of control that’s more intuitive and natural. Built-in eye-tracking hardware (infrared sensors and software) unlocks a completely new facet in gaming. By tracking a gamer’s eye with software, the notebook introduces new interactions like aiming, identifying enemies and taking cover simply by gazing at objects on the screen. Eye tracking also enhances the experience by providing infinite views whilst navigating treacherous paths and roads in a game."
Other features of the Predator 21 X include a keyboard with Cherry MX key switches, a unique design for the numeric keypad "that allows it to be flipped over and turned into a Precision Touchpad", a 5-fan cooling system, and a 4-speaker, dual-subwoofer premium sound system.
Pricing and availability have not been revealed.

OHHHHhhhh MYY

This laptop is… DOA.
It lacks racing stripes.

Now I have seen it all in
Now I have seen it all in terms of what is possible with laptops.
two gtx 1080’s and they stick
two gtx 1080’s and they stick a less than 2*1080p monitor in it?? barking mad!. There are 1440p monitors available in ultra-wide, that would have made way more sense…with just one 1080. At least that’s what I think
Because they probably can’t
Because they probably can’t source ultrawide LCD panels that are 3440×1440 below 34″.
It makes sense when you hook
It makes sense when you hook the laptop up to external displays.
Otherwise dick-size bragging rights have never made much sense anyway other than to say mine is bigger than yours.
Oh, Acer.
The poster child
Oh, Acer.
The poster child of stupid fucking design choices, made by Taiwanese electrical engineers, who aim to sell a product based on low price and what looks good on a spec sheet; rather than designing products that make sense. (but to be fair, the market in Asia is one where people buy based on low price and spec sheets).
This laptop… I bet the designers literally just made a list of what have been talking about over the past year:
– Curved ultrawide screens
– Gaming laptops
– MSI GT80 “laptop”
– New Intel processors
– nVidia Pascal GPUs
– … in SLI!!!
– Mechanical keyboards
– RGB lighting
… and then decided to cram all of that into a cheap shitty plastic chassis (just like all of Acer, Asus, Gigabyte’s other products), because spec-sheet shoppers care more about price than chassis material.
Or the fact that you have 2x GTX 1080’s driving a single 2560×1080 panel (with no mention of G-Sync or refresh rate, btw), when a single GTX 1080 could literally handle the pixel count of FOUR 2560×1080 panels at 60fps in modern games with details cranked up, without breaking a sweat. Again, because 2x GTX 1080’s looks great to spec-sheet buyers.
This “spec sheet buyer” mentality is also why for nearly 2 decades, we’ve seen laptops that will get upgraded with the latest CPU, GPU, larger HDD, etc. but be stuck with an absolute shit 1366×768 TN panel. It was only in the past few years that you started seeing laptops come out with decent IPS panels. Because the three letters “IPS” did not justify a $200+ USD price increase over TN, to buyers just looking at specs on a spec sheet. The major ODM / OEMs in Taiwan (Acer, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Sager/Clevo) were responsible for that worldwide trend, because of their shitty design choices that catered to spec-sheet buyers.
We’re talking about Acer, so
We’re talking about Acer, so mission accomplished, I guess.
One of the most stupidest
One of the most stupidest (outright RETARDED, in all honesty) things that came out during the past decade. As much the entire curved is being a complete fad and just yet another bubble in itself, even inside it’s own scheme this is the most stupidest thing you could’ve eber done with it. Simply becsuse the entire curved shtick doesn’t work at all for jack shit FOR AS LONG AS THE PANEL ITSELF NOT BIG AND WIDE ENOUGH TO COVER THE ENTIRE EFFING PERIPHERY! To put it more simply to understand – this here Acer’s so-called “curved notebook” is just a piece of absolutely worthless and useless trash. Absolutely inept garbage.
Any word on the battery
Any word on the battery life?
Yes, that was a joke.

Mmm… I guess this could be
Mmm… I guess this could be Acer’s answer to the Oculus Rift. Strap the laptop to your chin and the curved screen will be incredibly immersive.
Not sure what you’ll have to strap your head to though. A steel pole down the back of your shirt?
I fully expect ASUS to put
I fully expect ASUS to put this same display on their hemahroid model

This reminds me of the silly laptop HP made briefly back in the day called the “HPX Dragon” or something along those lines. It was huge like this thing. Needless to say, it was only on the market for a very short time.

If this didn’t have the screen and all the other bling BS it would actually be an impressive SFF gaming PC.
