AMD has just unveiled their entire RX line of graphics cards at E3 2016's PC Gaming Show. It was a fairly short segment, but it had a few interesting points in it. At the end, they also gave another teaser of Summit Ridge, which uses the Zen architecture.
First, Polaris. As we know, the RX 480 was going to bring >5 TFLOPs at a $199 price point. They elaborated that this will apply to the 4GB version, which likely means that another version with more VRAM will be available, and that implies 8GB. Beyond the RX 480, AMD has also announced the RX 470 and RX 460. Little is known about the 470, but they mentioned that the 460 will have a <75W TDP. This is interesting because the PCIe bus provides 75W of power. This implies that it will not require any external power, and thus could be a cheap and powerful (in terms of esports titles) addition to an existing desktop. This is an interesting way to use the power savings of the die shrink to 14nm!
They also showed off a backpack VR rig. They didn't really elaborate, but it's here.
As for Zen? AMD showed the new architecture running DOOM, and added the circle-with-Zen branding to a 3D model of a CPU. Zen will be coming first to the enthusiast category with (up to?) eight cores, two threads per core (16 threads total).
The AMD Radeon RX 480 will launch on June 29th for $199 USD (4GB). None of the other products have a specific release date.
Zen at 8 core 16 threads at
Zen at 8 core 16 threads at an affordable price point yes! I just wish that AMD would show some AM4 motherboard products along with some more information on any Micro/Mini type of systems that have any Bristol Ridge/AM4/Polaris design wins! I want to see what may be BR based systems will be available for between the 29th of June and whenever Zen will actually be available. Maybe for a Steam OS based HTPC system that could be updated later on.
AMD: Never Settle …on a
AMD: Never Settle …on a product release date.
You don’t seem to be able to
You don’t seem to be able to buy an Nvidia GTX 1080 for even founders editio MSRP yet. How much FUD would there be if AMD had pulled such a paper launch?
Anyone who uses the term
Anyone who uses the term “FUD” is usually an experienced propagandist of some kind who is better off being ignored. I don’t personally know anyone who has ever used the term, either online or in the real world. Then again, I don’t know any politicians, PR representatives, or Silicon Valley people.
Still Zen overhyped with no
Still Zen overhyped with no proof of its real existence…
What did they showed until now?
A Bulldozer processor covered by a branded Zen heatspread and more recently a 3D model of the so-called Zen processor.
What’s next?
A lego model of the so-called Zen processor? :o)
Really so there is no Zen or
Really so there is no Zen or moon landings, and AMD is just bluffing. No the SEC/FTC would not like that and people could wind up in jail by miss-stating things to the stockholders/investors, so Zen is for real. I do not expect the Zen will beat Intel’s latest in IPC’s but AMD just needs to get close enough to Intel’s IPC metric to make many choose AMD’s Zen on the price/performance metric alone! The DX12 and Vulkan graphics APIs will be less dependent on single core IPC’s for future gaming on the new gaming APIs so AMD offering more CPU cores for less money could be the way to go for many games that utilize the latest gaming/graphics APIs.
Once the Zen based APUs come out, even if the Zen’s IPC metric does not beat Intel’s IPC metric that AMD GPU/graphics, and HSA ability on the APU, will make Any Zen APU the better choice for graphics. AMD’s APU on an Interposer module will have even better graphics with a much larger GPU die paired with a separate Zen cores die, and all wired up CPU to the GPU with some very wide interposer etched fabric in addition the the wide fabric to each HBM stack. So AMD’s APU on an interposer variants will be a gaming/workstation monster. Remember the interposer will allow for separately fabricated dies(CPU/GPU/HBM/others) to be wired up as if they where made of a single monolithic die, that silicon interposer being made of the same silicon material as the processor die will allow for plenty of connection traces to wire up all manner of separately fabricated processor dies into one very powerful APU system on an interposer.
It is more likely that AMD
It is more likely that AMD has no Zen product ready yet since Jim Keller let them down with only bones to gnaw.
AMD is bluffing and try to gain time to release late the Zen architecture at best for the first quarter of 2017.
Actually until that time, many things could happen like a bankrupcty or a world stock market crash.
Really is that you chizow,
Really is that you chizow, Keller finished his contract and his Job was done, Keller is now at Tesla doing some more of his work under contract. You and Juanrga and your need to make Keller’s departure from AMD into some daytime soap affair! Keller does not like the boring stuff and moves on to where that CPU core development action is, AMD has plenty of engineers to finish up the minor CPU core details and get the product to market.
No one expects Zen to beat Intel’s latest on the single core IPC metric, they only expect that AMD’s price/performance metric will make Zen the choice of many who will still have money left over after their CPU purchase to get one or, maybe two, of those RX 480s for some very affordable VR gaming/4k gaming systems. Those Nvidia/Intel peasants will have to give up some internal organs to afford those prices. I can hear them now Kidney for sale, baby need an Intel/Nvidia gaming rig, Kidney for sale…!
Zen will be available in limited quantities this year for the desktop, with 2017 as always for the stated mass availability of more Zen parts and Workstation/HPC/APU Zen based SKUs. AMD really has no pressing debt servicing until 2019! Those new Xbox, and PS4 refreshes are coming early so even more revenues to keep things going.
Really the FUD is strong with you!
Really AMD has a long track
Really AMD has a long track record of lies! 😉

But you, you have webbed feet
But you, you have webbed feet from your SMOM, and your need to bash AMD, or any other player in the market place for reasons of illogical loyalty best reserved for a sports team! Really you are all over the web with your sock-puppets! You are having a brownout because AMD is bringing its improved CPU/GPU SKUs to market and offering a better price/performance than your Blue-Green teams more costly SKUs. It’s you chizow, and how is NV-Sphincter-Elite doing!
Them Puppets that all have had your arm up their tukas, and you are having and NV style crises, now that AMD is producing an vastly improved product and getting more market share.

Not an AMD fanboy, unlike you
Not an AMD fanboy, unlike you with your Green Goblin lust, I go for the price/performance metric. You go for the idol worship of the Green by giving up all that green in your wallet! How’s that Founder’s edition have you found any in the supply chain, and what’s that retailer markup on the already overpriced Green Goblin kit, damn it’s one of them almost paper launches from the green team to milk the supply lines for more green. JHH’s trickle down economics, but JHH is trickling something else down on his customers with them pricing tactics!
Enjoy you vendor lock-in and lack of async-compute, you TOOL! Now get to singing about all that async skimping for the green team’s pennies that JHH throws your way!

Since the earliest rumors,
Since the earliest rumors, Zen has been rumored to launch end of 2016/early 2017, my guess is a paper launch around christmas and availability in Q1 2017. Each time they release new info, it just seems to confirms that.

Maybe my english is so bad but I assumed redacting something imply writing things like an article and putting in shape.
Actually you elude the fact that people always attempt to discriminate everything into categories, including humans which push their behaviour from racism to collusion.
There’s no shame to hide your identity from the public under the PC Perspective responsibility if you are accountable for your articles to your webmaster. Nevertheless, this could give less biased feedback in comments from your “fan club” thinking you’re write on subjects they don’t understand because you promoted their opinion on other subjects.
Anyway, I think you don’t want to put in perspective this side of comments by convenience which I can understand. 😉
The perception of bias will
The perception of bias will be there regardless; none of us here do actually have much of a bias for or against any of the companies we report on … we care about the tech and not who makes it. That doesn't matter to the lunatic fringe who define bias as something which does not exactly match their own opinions. http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?id=4105
As for redact, in proper usage it does meant what you intended; colloquially it now has a more negative connotation, generally to edit or delete something already said which should not have been. I took you to be using the second meaning… which is rather ironic considering how you actually meant it.
s/write/right/
s/write/right/
So let me get this
So let me get this straight:
1. You make a claim that the chip Lisa Su held up was a Bulldozer chip with a different lid on it – while not bothering to cite your source – in an effort to hide from the public the problems that you say they’re having.
2. You are provided photographic proof that your claim is false.
3. You refuse to accept the photographic proof because…. well, you didn’t give a reason so I’m guessing you just refuse to accept evidence of something that goes against what you want to believe.
4. You think this makes you “not a sheep”.
Sorry. You’re wrong. You’re the worst kind of sheep.
Go find an Nvidrone circle jerk to participate in.
Why should I prove anything
Why should I prove anything since Lisa Su proved nothing? It’s my right to argue the Zen claimed BS…
You don’t get to lie about it
You don’t get to lie about it and cry foul when you get called out on it.
You claim she held up a Bulldozer chip.
You were shown the picture that shows it was not a Bulldozer chip, nor any current or past production AMD chip.
Continuing to claim that she held up a Bulldozer chip is a blatant lie. But since the fact is inconvenient to your preferred reality, you will continue to blatantly lie, as if it proves anything other than you’re a willful, deliberate liar.
“You were shown the picture
“You were shown the picture that shows it was not a Bulldozer chip”
Are you really talking about the blurry crap you linked here as a proof?
It seems you are mentally disturbed by AMD’s marketing…
Well, if your visual acuity
Well, if your visual acuity is so bad that you can’t recognize details in that picture, that’s not my fault – I can see them well enough to count the number of pins on an edge and do some simple math to figure out that there’s 1331 pins on the back of that chip that she’s holding up. Which, surprise surprise, is the number of pins in the AM4 socket. For Zen.
But you know what? It’s alright. You’ve teed me up perfectly. See, since you were too lazy to bother doing the simplest of research to be sure you were right before spouting your lies – and then doubling down on it when you’re shown that you’re wrong – I decided to lay it out for you, definitively – Lisa Su was not holding up Bulldozer. She was holding up Zen.
Observe:

Athlon 64 was the last time
Athlon 64 was the last time an AMD chip had that square gap in the middle of the pins. And there’s way too many pins for it to be an Athlon 64.
So what is she holding up?
Nothing? No response at all?
Nothing? No response at all? No, “Oh, I guess you’re right, maybe I should stop claiming that it was a Bulldozer chip in disguse,” or even just a simple, “I was wrong” statement?
What a surprise.
I’m willing to bet you’re still running around other comment threads on other sites and still claiming that she was holding up a Bulldozer chip, pretending that you were never shown the facts, because your lie is so much more comfortable to your pointlessly biased tech worldview. SOP for sad little fanboys.

Leaks showing that there is an RX 480 in the wild with performance greater than a 980 Ti and Fury X.. of course, leaking anything is so easy nowadays, give it to one of those tech click bait sites and let ’em run with it.
However, with the release this close, a lot of those ‘leaked’ benchmarks end up being true – the GTX 1070/1080 leaked specs/benchmarks that were found were spot on.
Who knows, AMD might have struck gold here.

Dudes, I have imagined something for a long time now and need to know if it would even be possible!?
Maybe I’m the first to bring this up, but.
Would it be possible with HBM2 to see ZEN Cpu’s AND, Polaris etc GPU’s on a stand alone socket chip
Polaris gpu with HBM2 memory, and a ZEN cpu with HBM2..
On a new motherboard format so you could change out GPU’s and CPU with the needed memory integrated..
Just imagine to have 8gb HBM2 memory on both Cpu and gpu, and have it all placed on a board smaller than MINI-ITX, watercooled in a inclosure same size as a ps4..:! 😛 And when you want/need a new gpu or Cpu, you just buy the chip.. Steambox anyone?
I REALLY want this lol.

This is a bit off topic and
This is a bit off topic and directed at the PCPer staff. I would be very interested in reading your thoughts on “Fanboys” I feel like whenever you post an article about AMD or nVidia the comments section are full of vitriol. As people who write about this stuff day in and day out, and have relationships with real people at these companies, what is your opinion of the vitriol surrounding both brands? Do you write it off as a vocal minority of privileged children with nothing better to get angry about? Where do you see the manufacturers marketing campaigns adding or subtracting to the fire. I would be surprised if any other industry reporting was filled with the same level of anger about product announcements. Anyway just a thought for an interesting op-ed. Though it could be a Pandora’s box of an article.
If you don’t like democracy,
If you don’t like democracy, stop whining and go away… The web doesn’t lack of advertorials.
So, a few things, mostly I
So, a few things, mostly I was curious about their perspective on the comments not so much the marketing/advertorial content. I don’t think there is anything wrong with advertorial content, especially in this sector. My comments were less about PCPer content and more the comments sections. So many true believers for corporations. I mean I know AMD and nVidia benefit from their veracious fan base so I get why it is encouraged, I just don’t understand the mindset that makes someone so defensive of companies that have no interest in anything outside their wallet. And as intermediates in the marketing apparatus who seek to inform consumers (and do so quite well IMHO) while still being dependent on furthering that same marketing apparatus I felt the PCPer writers would have a somewhat unique and (at least to me) interesting perspective. Again, I acknowledged it was off topic. And please do not compare the comments section of a privately run tech news site to “democracy”, I mean at least the free speech argument (though tired and shallow) makes contextual sense. What are we voting on agian? Is there a self governance going on in these comments I was not aware of? If that is the case I move that the chair of the comments section form an exploratory subcommittee to to compile a report on the motions passed by this body in the past biennium to be presented within the next fiscal quarter. Do I have a second?

Look at Dell still using
Look at Dell still using Intel/Nvidia for their Steam Machines, it’s no wonder that the steam machines are not doing so well with their high Intel/Nvidia BOM! Until I can get some AMD Bristol Ridge/AM4/Polaris options, I’ll keep my money and wait. Hopefully AMD will be getting some design wins for its AM4 platform that can start with BR, and then be updated to Zen, with some affordable RX 480 options. How the hell does Dell expect their Steam Machines with Nvidia’s last generation GPU SKUs to utilize Vulkan and take advantage of async-compute for gaming.
Dell is just getting rid of excess stocks of these Intel/Nvidia SKUs that have no future as far as Vulkan and async-compute goes! At least an AM4 platform with BR and a RX 480 is going to be VR ready, damn good way to alienate more users from Linux/Vulkan gaming, Dell!

Valve was thinking ahead with Lighthouse being inherently passive because of the scalability it offers for a large venues like this.
VR Battery backpacks may be the future of laser-tag arenas!
