Sick of the standard laptop screen resolution of 1366×768, especially on a laptop with a 17" screen? The Register has collected five laptops which have a 1080p resolution, several of which feature touchscreen capabilities for use with Win 8.1 and range in screen size up to 17.3". There is a variety of quality, the lower cost HP notebook does not feature an IPS display and so is not as sharp as some other models but then again it is not as expensive as the other models either. There is not much in the way of benchmarks but it is not too hard to estimate performance based on the components which are inside these laptops as they are common among the current generation of laptops. This review focuses on the screen, much like your eyes do.
"For the more discerning eye, that’s just not enough, and while we’ll be looking at the more expensive HiDPI laptops soon, full HD laptops are certainly more affordable these days, especially if you’re prepared to trade having a high-performance CPU or a speedy solid-state drive for a crisper, higher resolution image instead."

If it’s the current crop of
If it’s the current crop of UltraBook worthless CPU SKUs, then forget it, I need a quad core i7 minimum, and that’s with hyper-threading. 1366×768 should be taken out back, and put out of its misery. There better be a 6 core laptop SKU somewhere on Intel’s roadmap, or it’s just more waiting for this ultrabook nightmare to end!

“1366×768 should be taken out back, and put out of its misery.”
This.
“it’s just more waiting for this ultrabook nightmare to end!”
Or, if you have the money to spend, you can buy a MacBook Pro Retina. They have the thinness of an ultrabook and powerful processors.
I would, except I really like and need tons of on-board storage, and the Retina MBP’s measly 1TB won’t cut it for me after I got used to my non-Retina MBP with the aftermarket 4TB modification I did to it.
My HTC One Phone does
My HTC One Phone does 1080P.
If you buy a Laptop that does not do 1080P then you are supporting these lower resolutions and giving Manufacterers a reason to make them.
In a tiny Nettop (less than 12″, with a KBD) then less than 1080P might be understandable, if not for cost but for visibility sake.
My Phone has a 4.7″ Screen and I can usually see it fine; sure makes for nice Videos, and no need for Software scaling.
Booo, the newer, less than 1080P Laptops (and don’t buy them for cheap on Black Friday). Thanks for making this List.
With a computer used for
With a computer used for internet, mail and work a standard resolution of 1366 doesn’t embarass, but it’s true that with a gamer laptop this resolution is not suitable
