Dell has released two new 4K monitors, and according to a story published by The Tech Report these are using IPS panels.
The new models are available on Dell's site priced starting at $599, which puts them into what had been TN territory just a few months ago. The original report came from TFT Central, which claimed to have leaked information about new 4K monitors from Dell with 60Hz IPS panels. Dell released the leaked model numbers at just $599 and $699 for the 24-inch and 27-inch versions, respectively.
Updated: Dell's website specifies that these are in fact IPS in the full tech specs rundown for each panel. I surmised that these could potentially be a VA or other panel type as well, as of course IPS is not the only display technology capable of wide viewing angles.
The monitors arrive factory-calibrated to 99% sRGB color (according to Dell's product pages) and feature tilt, swivel, and rotation, so they could be a great option where the full 178° viewing angle is preferred over the existing TN-based 4K offerings.

You can get a cheaper computer that handles 4k, 2 r9 290x for $600,mobo ssd ram psu, case all high end parts for around 1k.
ips is not for gaming anyway the input lag is just to long, this is geared towards professional use.

These TN panels are 10-bit (8-bit native +). All modern GPUs can handle 8-bit.
The IPS panels are 12-bit (10-bit native +). If you don’t want to be hardware limited to 8-bit (All GeForce GPUs). You need to use a Radeon or go workstation class GPU (FirePro or Quadro)

I guess IPS is one of those things you have to see to find out whether or not it’s worth it. Extra pixels I can understand, but this whole TN vs IPS debate leaves me yawning. Factor in the use’h mark up price and it’s probably the same reason why 2560×1440 isn’t widely adopted.

Obviously, which is my point. It’s one of those “see to believe” kind of things. We know technically IPS, 2560×1440, and 120Hz is better than whats standard. So why is it they aren’t mainstream? People either are unaware of the differences or monitor manufacturers just want to leave them as high-end items to upsell people like they have for an eternity. The cost would go down if they ditched the old technology and pushed the better. They know monitors/TV’s have very little room to grow technologically so they purposely keep things how they are now so their margins don’t shrink to next to nothing.

First of all, different technologies are best for different users. I prefer a TN panel for gaming but usually switch to an IPS monitor for movies and the little bit of colour correction work I have to do. For normal Office users, a 150 Dollar HD TN monitor is simply good enough, so they dont spend 500 for something thats technically better but does not benefit them.
Go to any electronic shop and if you cant tell the difference. just buy the cheapest monitor you can find, good for you 🙂
Why are high-res and high-refresh Monitors not mainsteam? Well, are you driving a Ferrari? It comes down to cost, and everything above the established standards will cost more to produce and thus to buy.
Your last Point about manufacturers is absurd. Your argument only makes sense if there is only 1 manufacturer without any competition who can dictate a whole market. Obviously that is not the case, and the fact that profit margins are indeed very low on most monitors is proof of that, aside from the fact that there are dozens of manufacturers out there, go see for yourself.
So in short. you know nothing and ignore simple economics to defend your position.

OLED is NOT the White Knight in shining armor and has TONS of problems, especially in bigger form factors.

It’s not true that oled solve all the problems.
It’s not true that oled can display images at 10.000 HZ, do not eliminate blur and so on, due controller limitations and electronic it not perfect.
Oled have black smearing for now. In my Oculus DK2 the black smearing it’s a big problem and also on S3-S4-S5 smartphones or on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5 it’s noticeable.
It’s orrible in the DK2 and I hope samsung find a solution to this problem in time for the first consumer Oculus Rift.

I’m probably hoping in vain, but my ideal would be a 36″ 16:9 4K monitor. Something between the 32’s and the 40’s that are a bit too large.
There are just things you can work on and layout more accurately on a large monitor.
