Kaveri, Beema and Mullins are on their way out to be replaced by the Excavator based Carrizo family towards the end of the year. We can hope they will appear in products in time for Christmas as the low power Carrizo-L, rumoured to be around 12-35W TDP, will arrive. In the new year the more powerful Carrizo, speculated at 45-65W TDP, will be available. It is unclear how long the delay will be between availability to system builders and the products appearing on the market. The chips will support DDR3, contain a GPU based on GCN 3.0 and stacked on-package memory which will be accessible by Through Silicon Via to act as a sort of L3 cache for HSA applications. DigiTimes also mentions it will run Win8 and Win10 as well as SLED.
"AMD is planning to announce next-generation Carrizo APUs in March 2015 to replace its existing Kaveri APUs for the mainstream performance notebook segment and will release Carrizo-L APUs for the entry-level notebook segment in December 2014 at the earliest to challenge Intel's Pentium and Celeron processors, according to sources from notebook players."

Mullins go much lower than
Mullins go much lower than 12W to be replaced by Carrizo-L. GCN 3.0? HBM? It would be nice if those two predictions of your end up true.
Hopefully … I trawled
Hopefully … I trawled through the various leaks we've had this year and those were the most commonly held beliefs
Maybe we will see HBM but
Maybe we will see HBM but only on the bigger Carrizo models. Those that come at 2015. Maybe everything from 12 to 35W will be a SoC, and everything bigger, the usual APU we are used to on the desktop. Hopefully the APUs will come WITH HBM memory. Why I say that? That diagram doesn’t say just SoC or APU it says “SoC – APU”, so maybe it is the basis for two different Carrizo series.
BTW looking around Carrizo is NOT replacing everything. Digitimes got it wrong there. Carrizo only replaces Kaveri and nothing else. Beema will be replaced by Nolan and AMD will replace Mullins with Amur. I think it makes sense. What is also interesting is that the SoC design is moving higher, to higher performing and higher TDP models.

This information is
This information is inaccurate. It actually goes as follows:
1st Generation GCN = GCN 1.0
2nd Generation GCN = GCN 1.1
3rd Generation GCN = GCN 1.2
The last time I’ve checked
The last time I’ve checked it was GCN 2.0 (Hawaii and so on, ACEs, etc – wccftech called it “GCN 1.2”, then the misinformed spread it). GCN 1.1 can be found Bonaire.
As far as I know AMD does not
As far as I know AMD does not actually put numbers on their GCN internally, it is the review sites which have chosen to. That's why you end up with some going with GCN 1.0 and 2.0 and others with GCN 1.0 and 1.1.
So whichever nomenclature you prefer, think Tonga.

But when will AMD add DDR4 as I believe this would be good for APUs performance?
Until there is an APU which
Until there is an APU which matches the performance of a 650tiboost or a 750, its kinda pointless tho.
Cuz for right now for almost the same money you can get a cheap pentium un one of those cheap dedicated video cards and have multiple times better performance than what the APU alone can handle.
And the APU`s arent powerful enough cpu`s to be coupled with a high end video card either. So they are meant to work alone…
…but they are super weak, i doubt that DDR4 would magically make the weak graphics portion noticeably better.
Year ago it was said Carrizo
Year ago it was said Carrizo will support DDR4, but seems they no longer intend to support that memory on desktop and mobile platform, but server version of Carrizo will probably support it.
My guess reason for not offering wider support of DDR4 is it’s high price. AMD APU usually target budget and mainstream builds that will not tolerate high DDR4 prices.
In theory if there was a
In theory if there was a server variant of Carrizo then we might see it there, but I've heard nothing specific.
To the guy who said APU’s are
To the guy who said APU’s are pointless, HSA accelerated software. Simply put with the right software supporting HSA features, this APU would blow away a top end Intel i7 in performance using CPU + GPU in parallel for at least an 856 gflops of compute performance if in non over-clocked mode, or greater if it is. An Intel i7 can only provide around 450 gflops.
Yes it’s true at best they can only be paired with a R9 270x, or at a push R9 285 Tonga GPU before APU bottlenecking became a problem. I would go for the Tonga R9 285, as this is the GPU that will power the future APU soc’s with full HSA parallel compute and context switching abilities.
AMD have already got this ability, but Nvidia will not have this until Pascal in 2016, this is not HSA, but something similar using NVlink.
As for the weak graphics in Kaveri, with the best 2133 mhz memory @ 9cl times. @ 720p, you can get pretty descent frame rates with really good GPU settings.
If HBM is implemented in Carrizo, the bandwidth will be negated with this and the new Delta colour compression tech in the Tonga GPU part. So expensive DDR4 will not be needed. The best thing AMD need to do is improve on their lack-lustre memory controller part, as this would greatly enhance the bandwidth if they what Intel had on the i5 and i7 CPU’s.
To the one talking about
To the one talking about pentiums being better then a apu i laugh at you.I bet you havent owned one before.pentiums are so outdated its not even funny. How ever thats not to say my dual core + 5570 didnt serve me well but stop pushing dual cores and single cores over apus its ridiculous.I will never buy an intel product because of the lawsuits and moral reasons like bill gates giving one mil to anti gun groupes in america.Oh but no one cares about morals they just care about paying +200 for what they think is the best.Apus will have there time and you will be eating your words.People are just to picky with there tech these days be happy with it.
