NVIDIA has been upgrading their GeForce Experience just about once per month, on average. Most of their attention has been focused on ShadowPlay which is their video capture and streaming service for games based on DirectX. GeForce Experience 1.8.1 brought streaming to Twitch and the ability to overlay the user's webcam.
This time they add a little bit more control in how ShadowPlay records.
Until this version, users could choose between "Low", "Medium", and "High" quality stages. GeForce Experence 1.8.2 adds "Custom" which allows manual control over resolution, frame rate, and bit rate. NVIDIA wants to makes it clear: frame rate controls the number of images per second and bit rate controls the file size per second. Reducing the frame rate without adjusting the bit rate will result in a file of the same size (just with better quality per frame).
Also with this update, NVIDIA allows users to set a push-to-talk key. I expect this will be mostly useful for Twitch streaming in a crowded dorm or household. Only transmitting your voice when you have something to say prevents someone else from accidentally transmitting theirs globally and instantaneously.
GeForce Experience 1.8.2 is available for download at the GeForce website. Users with a Fermi-based GPU will no longer be pushed GeForce Experience (because it really does not do anything for those graphics cards). The latest version can always be manually downloaded, however.

MSI Afterburner, with gtx470, works much more better.
So i trash it during install.
Is nvidia envious of amd’s gaming path?
Sounds great, I was wondering
Sounds great, I was wondering if they’d let me set the bit rate and FPS eventually. This is starting to be a pretty high quality application.
This is fantastic. I hope
This is fantastic. I hope they continue to improve this over the months/years and add a lot of things for those of us who want to do more than just make convenient snippets of video. People who really care about quality and control over the encoding. So far, it looks like they’re going in the right direction. For $50, I have been extremely pleased with dxtory – but something brewed by NVIDIA themselves for their own card would be eagerly accepted, if it ticks the right boxes.
Problem with Dxtory is that
Problem with Dxtory is that it only captures, inorder to stream you need another application to take the DirectShow output feed and shoot it out onto the internet. This is normally done with Xsplit which requires Adobe Flash to be installed on the system. This does all of that and you don’t even need Adobe Spyware to be installed! I still use dxtory for video capture though, mostly because it doesn’t require applications to be fullscreen like ShadowPlay currently does. Also ShadowPlay does not seem to work with Dolphin or PCSX2. Go figure.
I think Shadowplay is a
I think Shadowplay is a fantastic feature and has definitely been a huge selling point for all of my friends/family to hop along on the Nvidia bandwagon. All of us have been using it to record awesome/funny incidents that happen during gaming and has allowed us to show our friends/family our random gaming moments. I haven’t tried the streaming feature yet because I believe OBS is superior (especially since it’s designed specifically for streaming) although if I could use the GPU’s shadowplay h.264 encoder to encode my video stream in conjunction with OBS to twitch it could lead to tremendous value in Nvidia cards. Imagine if you could have a secondary card just to encode the video to upload to twitch.
I can’t wait to see how shadowplay grows as a feature software and what AMD’s response to it will be.
Game optimization is still stupid and I love to tweak my own settings (who cares about AA?)
AMD’s response is for you to
AMD’s response is for you to install Raptr. http://raptr.com/amd
What I like most about the settings tweaker is the games that do support it, seems like either Nvidia or the developers of whatever game in question have gone through with explanations of what all the options do and how they’ll effect your experience of the game. I don’t use the setting tweaker either, but still really nice stuff for the hopefully large number of new gamers coming into the PC space with no idea what things like anisotropic filtering mean.
PTT for the win. Yet another
PTT for the win. Yet another “must have” feature on my list checked off. Nvidia is doing a great job with this software suite.
Defintely! I can choose 30fps
Defintely! I can choose 30fps now, custom bitrate and resolution. They ticked all the boxes I needed to use this full-time.
I wish they would hurry up
I wish they would hurry up and add desktop recording, imagine a lag free general screen capture tool.
