The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 just arrived at our office this week and before our full review we wanted to show our readers a quick overview on the design, features, accessories and performance of this 1.3 lbs Intel Atom Z2760 based computer. Running a full version of Windows 8 Pro, and not the somewhat limited Windows RT found on the MS Surface and ASUS VivoTab RT, the Tablet 2 (horrible name not withstanding) looks to be a pretty interesting device for users that want x86 compatibility and mobility.

I just don’t see the point in
I just don’t see the point in spending that much money on a tablet. When the prices come down, then I can see purchasing one as an interface device for home automation, HTPC, quick access to the web for simple things …while leisurely hanging out at home.
Currently, a laptop/computer/etc. …just gives an individual so much more. Tablet prices are going to have to come way down. I’ve heard a few good things about Ainol (China) tablets, but no significant reviews. Prices are decent for an Ainol tablet, but performance may be lacking. I just have a hard time buying from China. I’d really like a reasonably priced tablet …made in the USA!
Also, a tablet should be a tablet. Buying add-on devices such as Bluetooth keyboard, mice …etc. By the time one is done …you just about have a laptop! …why not buy a laptop? A laptop is still a lot cheaper than a tablet.
Personally, tablets are so small and still somewhat in their infancy …I think this would be a great time for the USA to get back into manufacturing and start producing robust, high quality, multi-functioning tablets, for a world market. Might be an inexpensive way to get back into manufacturing quickly …and receive a high return. Corning, in Kentucky, is already producing quality glass for several electronic devices. There are enough chip suppliers in the USA. If the design is engineered efficiently, then the assembly could be simplistic and fairly low in cost.
I won’t be purchasing a tablet anytime soon. I will not give up a chunk of cash for a device with this many limitations …it’s not practical for a lot of individuals. Laptop for now …get a tablet in a year or two, if they improve and the pricing becomes more reasonable.
I’ll be interested to see how
I’ll be interested to see how well it performs. That 10-hr battery life is attractive but the 1366×768 is a detractor. If only Microsoft and Intel allowed this Atom to chip to be paired with a 1080p panel, but I guess they had their battery life concerns..
I just wish retailers like
I just wish retailers like Office Depot, Tiger Direct, and Micro-center would have carried a SKU of this that included the Pen option, and not the non-pen version.
That “Full-Size” USB 2.0 port
That “Full-Size” USB 2.0 port that you showed, is too low powered to even power up an external USB hard drive, CD-ROM, or DVD drive. Even though Lenovo’s own advertising says it will. I returned mine & got the ASUS Vivo Tab Smart which is also a Clover Trail device with almost identical specs for $499 w/free shipping from Best Buy. This allowed to to get in on a 1st gen Win 8 tablet @ the lowest possible price point. Check out the VIVO TAB SMART if you don’t NEED the digitizer pen.
interesting note on the usb
interesting note on the usb port…I will check it out.
I also noticed that when the
I also noticed that when the battery charge was low and I plugged it in to charge, the touch screen became jittery. Also with Google Talk installed, the backlighting would not come on when coming out of sleep mode, making it appear as if it wasn’t coming out of sleep at all. Also mine had a yellowish tint to the bottom 1/2″ of the screen. The USB power issue was overcome by using a powered hub or a “Y” USB cable that comes with some Ext. Drives that require extra power, however that doesn’t help when not around a power source.
Wow, it’s actually pretty
Wow, it’s actually pretty cool. I think this China brand has really grown up. It is the pride of china and I always support it .Otherwise, I hope I can get access to it at 365trustbuy,because I also like this Chinese shopping web site too.
