Introduction and Specifications

MSI has developed a new brand to encompass their high-end motherboard products called Big Bang. The first offering under this name is the Trinergy, a P55 motherboard that includes support for 3-Way SLI and THX certified audio. It also includes some great overclocking features and something you don’t ever here me praise: great documentation! What?!?
And on the seventh day, MSI rested

There has been a lot of controversy and promoting of the MSI Big Bang series of motherboard, and while I am not going to get into too much of that in this review today, if you are interested in learning about those facets of this motherboard you can probably find out about them by clicking on the cleverly hidden links inside this sentence.  What we are focusing on today though is the review of a very impressive, high-end enthusiast motherboard from MSI.

The Big Bang series from MSI is to be their offering to compete against the likes of the ASUS Republic of Gamers line – essentially the top end models for the enthusiast and overclocker that demands much more from a motherboard than simply a CPU socket.  The “Trinergy” we are reviewing today is the first model to be released under this new namesake and has a lot of hype to live up to.

But First, our Video Review

If you are interested in a 10+ minute version of the review of this motherboard in video form, we have included it below!  It doesn’t have the same depth of information as the full written review, but I think you’ll find that it covers the most pertinent topics very well.  Please give us some feedback on the video reviews and what we can improve on.  Thanks!

MSI Big Bang Trinergy Specifications (from MSIComputer.com)

The new Big Bang Trinergy is a P55 motherboard built for the new Intel Lynnfield processors released earlier this year.  There is a lot more to it than just the standard P55 collection of feature though starting with the inclusion of an nForce 200 chip that brings support for 3-Way SLI using full speed x16 PCIe slots.  There are more features to drool over as well, listed below, that we’ll look at in more detail on the following pages.

One thing to note up front: this board does NOT have support for either SATA 6G or USB 3.0 so if those features are really important to you for your next motherboard upgrade, keep that mind early.
