A long time ago on a website far far away, a brave group of Frogs embarked on a long journey of fun and well ... virtual murderation.   In April of 2003, back when UT2k4 was shiny and new and not retro-gaming the Fragging Frogs held their first live event, a tournament to crown one of us the king of Unreal Tournament.  Since then the gang have been hosting drop-in games every week in a come as you are format and every once and a while Lenny and the crew put together a VLAN party.

The time has come again to announce another official Fragging Frogs VLAN, this one kicking off at 10AM EDT on Saturday April 8th and going as long as there is still someone gaming.  The previous VLAN saw over 90 people join in at one time or another, with an average of over 50 people active on TeamSpeak and in games.  No matter what type of game you are looking to play, there will be a group you can hook up with to play together or against!

As is tradition, there will be an undisclosed amount of prizes given away at the event but you will have to be on Teamspeak in order to qualify to win.  These prizes are supplied by hardware manufactures, software developers and even from the closets of certain reviewers here at PC Perspective.  You could end up with your own Joshtekk memorabilia!

Post to the official thread to let Lenny and the gang know you plan to attend, especially if you are not yet a forum member as the thread will let you know what you need to do to be eligible to win as well as how to connect to the TeamSpeak server and what patches and mods you should set up.  The list of games people plan on playing has hit 20, if you have one you want to play that is not on the list then make sure to comment in the thread.

See you there!

Frog Fractions 2 finally uncovered!

If you missed the wonderfully brilliant insanity which was Frog Fractions you can still play it over here, and you should!  It won't make sense at first and frankly you will still be befuddled at the end, but the trip is worth it, no matter how odd the task you are required to perform happens to be.  In order to play the second you must pick up Glittermitten Grove, as Frog Fractions 2 is now hidden within the game; the was released a while back but as of Christmas you can now find Frog Fractions 2 hidden within.  Cheers to Ars Technica for the news; have fun trying to figure out the new Frog Fractions and keep an eye out as it may appear in other places.

"Crawford took Frog Fractions 2 in a different direction from Frog Fractions, explaining that its release would be a complex and hidden process—there might be multiple games that came together to form Frog Fractions 2, like some kind of weird Voltron; or the game might be released and hiding in plain sight for months before anyone discovers what it really is."

Remember when Fallout was an isometric RPG? Want a Fallout 1.5?

The crew over at Resurrection Team have been working for a decade on a new Fallout game based on the Fallout 2 engine.  Originally released in Czech, they have recently released the English translation, for free for anyone to use as long as you have Fallout 2.  That should not be overly hard, GoG gave it away for free not too long ago and currently sell it for $10, Steam about the same.  The mod sounds fairly big, the original version had 2,471,214 text characters, 80 maps and 736 scripts.

If you haven't already started downloading it, check out what Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN thought about it and see if that convinces you.

"We’ve worked on Resurrection for more than 10 years. We worked for two-and-a-half years on the English translation after that. All of us have worked on Resurrection in our free time."

That's right, it is time for another Fragging Frog VLAN, this time lucky number 13, kicking off this Saturday morning.  If you are at all interested in having the best possible Saturday ever then head to the forums and put your name in the list of attendees.  If you are not a member of the Forums for some bizarre reason you need to sign up ASAP as it is members and contributors of PCPer and the Fragging Frogs who are given first shot at games and prizes.  To that end you will need to post at least 5 times to our Forums between now and Saturday; pictures of SPAM not included.

The list of possible games is already quite long, from UT2K4 up to the newly released Overwatch, by way of Battle both field-ish and Front-ian with many more on the list.  If you don't see one of your favourites post it to the thread and we will add it on.  Before joining in, make sure to check out this thread here for the information you need to hop onto the TeamSpeak server so you can chat with your fellow gamers.  You also need to join into the channel if you want to win any of the prizes which will be given away during the event.

That's right, prizes and gaming!  The wonderful folks at AMD have sent over some mysterious parts for you to have a chance to win and several of the staff of PCPer have dug through their closets and sent out some of the gear we have reviewed recently.  What could these be?  Only one way to find out; see you on Saturday!

Would you like some fresh Steaming Raspberry Pi?

Not only is powering a Raspberry Pi with a steam engine incredibly impressive, its make a lot of sense to use during the winter in Sweden.  A pair of propane blowtorches is used to heat the water to steam and the pressure created is used to turn a simple two cylinder engine which in turn is used to turn a simple DC electric motor which then powers the Pi.  If the power goes out you might not be able to browse the internet on it, but this Pi will keep running as long as you have water and propane.  You can follow the link from The Register for videos and notes, although they are in Swedish, hopefully Skype add that language to their instantaneous translation service soon.

"A Swedish schoolboy has built a miniature steam engine to power his Raspberry Pi. It is a piece of absolute engineering beauty."

Coffee Stain Studios is at it again with another update to Goat Simulator, this time themed after the Payday series of games.  Four goats, Valentino "The Flamingo" Salami, Dolph "The Dolphin" Spaghetti, Humphrey "The Camel" Ciabatta and Don "The Enforcer" Pastrami will hit the streets and start carjacking, water spitting, collecting masks and just generally wreaking chaos upon an unsuspecting world.  The addin will be released tomorrow and if it is like GoatZ it will cost you a couple of bucks for a lot of entertainment.  Watch the video below or just head over to the official site for a look at flying cars and the Goat Squad in action.

"Use your goat crew to smash & grab, then blast away all your money at Mahatma Gambling and the Indian casino just like in that Al Cappuccino movie"

That's right, for those of you who pre-ordered Homeworld Remastered and for anyone that pops by Steam to purchase it, your productivity is in for a serious hit as you try to guide your fleet to a new homeworld and then defend it.  For those lucky and old enough to have played through it originally you will find the look vastly improved and from what Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN and other reviewers have found you will also love the improved interface.  For those who have not had the pleasure of playing through these two games before, the $33 investment is more than worth it, especially with improved multiplayer coming in the near future.  Check out the videos and overview of the poster child for revamped legacy games here.

You will have to take a break this Saturday though, as the Fragging Frogs Virtual LAN party #9 kicks off at 10AM ET and will end when the last frog drops.  You can check out the official thread in the forums right here to get all the information you need to participate.  AMD and other mystery sponsors will be giving away prizes to those who log into and participate in the TeamSpeak channels; not to mention it is the best way to chat in game and in the general lobby.  You can also check out the list of games that will be played as well as links to the mods and patches you will need, please download and install them before Saturday to maximize your playing time.  See you there!

"In terms of strategy games which ‘need’ remastering, Homeworld was probably somewhere at the bottom of the list. But in terms of strategy games which really, truly benefit from remastering – well, this is a chart-topper."

Several rowboats worth of snacks, a couple of canoe-fulls of assorted beverages and boatloads of fun were had this weekend in the highly successful 7th Fragging Frogs VLAN; if you missed it there will be another chance some day but you really missed an epic event.  There were over 120 Teamspeak connections in a variety of channels and an estimated peak of 78 active participants.  Thanks to AMD there is a new game for the Frogs as well as Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare was a hit both to the players and to those watching iamApropos' live stream.  We also gained some ARMA 2 fans which will not only appear again next VLAN but is also in danger of becoming a frequent activity for some members.

  • XFX R9 290 Double D graphics card

Please stop by this thread to offer your thanks and support for all the hard work put into these events by Lenny, iamApropos, Spazster, Brandito, Cannonaire, AMD and the Frogs in general.

Only 1 more sleep to go before the Fragging Frog's VLAN #7

If you haven't yet signed up in the official thread, stocked up on snacks and beverages and reserved all of the weekend for gaming then maybe this will excite you enough to change your plans.

By the way, Play Battlefield 4 Free for a Week. Origin Game Time is On!  It is a rather popular choice with the Frogs so if you don't have it that is no excuse!

You should also consider subscribing to TornTV where you can find a lot of Fragging Frog and PC Perspective action.   There will also be a live stream where you can show off your skills, or lack thereof, to the whole internet!
