Just Cause 3 Multiplayer Mod Released... No, the Other One

While Just Cause isn’t really on my radar, the second one in the series had a relatively popular multiplayer mod that released a few years down the road. According to PC Gamer, there was another one in development, this time for Just Cause 3, but it was canceled as the developer was hired by Avalanche Studios.

At the same time, a second mod team, called nanos GbR, has released their own version of Just Cause 3 multiplayer. Why? Just ‘cause! Also, they are promoting their multiplayer framework, which includes plug-ins for Unreal Engine and CryEngine. It sounds like they want to be integrated into commercial projects, but, try as I might, I can’t seem to find anything concrete by them besides their mods to existing video games.

The Nanos Just Cause 3 Multiplayer mod is in public beta and available for download.

Blow stuff up Just Cause ... 3

When a reviewer mentions that they utterly forgot about the first mission for 12 hours after completing ye old mandatory game beginning you know something is up.  From how Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN describe Just Cause 3 it is not because the storyline is so bad you want to ignore it but because there is just so much stuff to blow up and it is a lot of fun doing it.  That describes the first two Just Cause games and it looks like the third will be no different, apart from what is described as a more reasonable escalation of enemy forces in the later parts of the game.  If the random violence of maliciously attaching people to various objects and generally causing chaos is up your alley then the latest installment of this series should not disappoint.

"Avalanche’s Just Cause 3 is officially released Tuesday morning online and in something called “shops”. “Officially”, because it was apparently released early in a few naughty nations, prompting the developers to make a list of planned Day 0 fixes. Of course, that means the code we’ve been reviewing from for the last week also lacks that patch, making it tricky to know how many of the issues I encountered – in an otherwise stupendous game – will affect you. Bearing this in mind, here’s wot I think."

Keep your GTA, there is an island to be 'liberated'

Sure, pretending to be a gangster can be fun and the many gameplay videos of GTAV certainly make it look entertaining but it pales in comparison to the over the top chaotic gameplay of the Just Cause series.  Watch the trailer below which covers a mix of gameplay, scripted events and cutscenes invoke.  Now decide whether destroying a town with your grapple attached to a bus while flying a helicopter seems like more entertainment than using a mod to drop whales across GTAV's landscape.  The modding community will certainly develop more interesting things to do in GTAV, then again the JC2 modders helped have the multiplayer version of the chaos simulator.  Up to you if you would rather demolish things as a gangster or as a 'liberator'.

Whatever you do remember, only you can stop pre-orders.

"Watching the “gameplay reveal” trailer for Just Cause 3 is like watching the ambitions of every guns, vehicles and explosions game made real. It’s the ludicrously overblown action blockbuster that Uncharted’s scripted events and cutscenes invoke."
