Enermax have launched a new family of PSUs called MaxTytan, with the 800W model appearing for review on [H]ard|OCP.  These PSUs feature Sleemax cabling, each wire is covered in fabric which does look nice but adds bulk to the wires.  The cables plus the 80 PLUS Titanium rating add to the price, the MSRP is $200.  That hurts the rating [H] provided as the power quality they saw in testing was good, but not great, and is somewhat more expensive than the competition.  Drop by for the review, as the PSU provides decent power and a nice look for cases that expose components.

"Enermax pulls out a flagship with its MaxTytan PSU, this one rated at 800 watts. The MaxTytan PSU has some interesting features like its on-demand Dust Free Rotation fan system. It also comes with very "custom" looking SLEEMAX cable covers that wrap every single cable individually like you find in custom rigs. And huge Titanium efficiency!"

We are going to kick-off the New Year on a high-note by taking another look at Seasonic’s PRIME Titanium series power supplies. When we first tested the new PRIME 750W Titanium PSU last summer, we concluded it was the best overall PC power supply we had reviewed to date. So was that just a fluke? Did we get a hand-picked power supply? Or did our review sample truly represent the outstanding performance that a regular user would experience after buying one of the Seasonic PRIME Titanium series power supplies through normal retail channels? Today, we are going to test two more PRIME Titanium PSUs and compare our findings with the original PRIME 750W Titanium power supply test results. This will provide a unique opportunity to compare three different power supplies from the same series to see how consistent their performance really is, which can be a good indicator of quality.

Sea Sonic Electronics Co., Ltd has been designing and building PC power supplies since 1981 and they are one of the most highly respected manufacturers in the world. Not only do they market power supplies under their own Seasonic name but they are the OEM for numerous big name brands.

Seasonic’s new PRIME lineup was introduced earlier this year with the Titanium Series, which currently includes three models: 850W, 750W, and 650W (with more to follow). Additional PRIME models with both Platinum and Gold efficiency certifications are also making their way into retail channels with models ranging from 850W up to 1200W.

3a-Prime-diag.jpg

The two new power supplies we have in for review are the PRIME 650W and 850W Titanium models. These units also come with all modular cables and are certified to comply with the 80 Plus Titanium efficiency criteria; the highest available. The power supplies are designed to deliver extremely tight voltage regulation on the three primary rails (+3.3V, +5V and +12V) and they provide superior AC ripple and noise suppression with an extended hold-up time. The new SilverStone Strider, a 600W 80 PLUS Titanium certified PSU

Subject: Cases and Cooling | November 14, 2016 - 03:32 PM |
Tagged: modular psu, 80 Plus Titanium, Silverstone, strider 600W, 600W PSU

The industries current focus on energy efficiency has made the need for a kilowatt class PSU much less prevalent than a few years back.  With current generation components even multi GPU systems can function with a 600W PSU which is why we are seeing so many arriving on the market.  This has created a challenge for PSU manufacturers as in order to receive an 80 PLUS certification the PSU must be over 80% efficient even at 10% power draw, over 90% for some of the higher ratings.  The Silverstone Strider Titanium 600W PSU came close to meeting those standards in [H]ard|OCP's tests, with some issues in their worst case scenario testing.  The PSU also runs about $140 which is somewhat higher than the competition.  The news is not all bad, check out their findings in full right here.

"SilverStone has been on a fairly successful ride with its Strider series of computer power supplies. These units tout excellent efficiency levels all while packing this into an unusually tiny footprint perfect for small form factor system builds. The ST60F-TI brings with it a solid build quality, near silent operation, all while being fully modular."

Introduction

2-ST60F-TI-1.jpg

SilverStone is a veteran in the PC power supply industry and they continue to offer a full line of enclosures, power supplies, fans, coolers, and PC accessories. They have raised the bar in their Strider power supply series, which now includes three 80 Plus Titanium certified units, the ST60F-TI, ST70F-TI, and ST80F-TI. These three units are billed as being “the world’s smallest 80 Plus Titanium, full-modular ATX power supplies”; with a chassis that is only 150mm (5.9”) deep.

3-80Plus-Chart.gif

The 80 Plus Titanium efficiency standards were introduced in 2012 and are the most demanding specifications to date. In addition to raising the efficiency requirements at 20%, 50% and 100% loads, the Titanium standard adds a new requirement at 10%. This insures that a Titanium certified power supply will operate with at least 90% efficiency over the full range of loads and deliver up to 94% efficiency at a 50% load.

4-ST60F-TI-cables.jpg

I’m also happy to report that SilverStone is now providing a 5-year warranty on both the Strider Titanium and Strider Platinum series power supplies; up from their standard 3-year warranty.

SilverStone ST60F-TI Power Supply Key Features:

•    80 Plus Titanium certified for super-high efficiency

SilverStone introduced a 700W SFX-L power supply at CES in January, and with that SX700-LPT PSU now officially released the company has raised the bar again as no less than 800W is coming to the SFX-L form-factor.

SX800LTI_0.jpg

SilverStone's SX800-LTI not only offers a massive 800W, but does so with an 80 PLUS Titanium certification (!). The power supply pushes this massive wattage along a single +12V rail, and the SX800-LTI features a fully-modular design for a clean build. An added benefit to the SFX-L form-factor, other than the potential for these powerful designs, is the use of a 120 mm fan, which allows for much quieter operation under load compared to the smaller SFX variant.

SX800LTI_1.jpg

We are now approaching full ATX power with these SFX-L PSUs, and indeed the 800-850W range should be all most users would need for even a dual-GPU system (especially as we enter the era of 14-16nm GPUs with their lower power requirements).

No word yet on price or availability.
