In Win are a venerable supplier of PSUs who slowly faded into the background as the PSU market has grown to include numerous manufacturers and resellers.  They are looking to get back into the minds of shoppers with their new Classic series, sporting a fully modular design, separated 12V rails, alumumium exteriors and an 80 Plus Platinum rating.  Inside the unit you will find Nippon Chemi-con and a clean design which impressed [H]ard|OCP.  Looks are not the only important thing when choosing a PSU however, check out the full review to see how well the In Win Classic 750W performed.

"It has been years since we have reviewed a computer power supply from In Win. You might remember the In Win name from being a prolific case supplier back in the early enthusiast days of the 1990's. How does In Win stack up in 2016 with its Classic series PSU that has a very sleek look to it and nice feature set?"

Introduction and Features

Introduction

Back by popular demand – today we are taking a detailed look at SilverStone’s new Strider Platinum Series 550W power supply. Not everyone needs or wants a high-capacity power supply and it is nice to see a medium range 550W unit with 80 Plus Platinum efficiency certification. Last month we looked at the Strider Platinum 850W unit and found it to be a very good power supply. In this review we are going to see if the 550W unit can live up to the expectations set by its big brother (tight voltage regulation, low AC ripple, high efficiency and quiet operation).

2-Banner.jpg

The Strider Platinum Series currently includes four compact models: the ST55F-PT (550W), ST65F-PT (650W), ST75F-PT (750W) and ST85F-PT (850W), which SilverStone claims are the smallest fully modular ATX power supplies with 80 Plus Platinum efficiency on the market. The chassis measures 140mm (5.5”) deep.

All of the Strider Platinum Series PSUs are designed to provide quiet, reliable operation. The 120mm cooling fan incorporates a Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) and an intelligent fan control permits fanless operation at low power. The overall performance is optimized with tight voltage regulation and low AC ripple on the DC outputs. And the unit comes backed by a 5-year warranty.

Here is what SilverStone has to say about the new Strider Platinum Series PSUs:  "As desktop computers continue to advance toward ever more efficient and smaller designs, SilverStone is helping to drive the efficiency movement by releasing the Strider Platinum Series of power supplies. Created to be the smallest fully modular ATX power supplies with 80 Plus Platinum efficiency, they are also incredibly quiet with the ability to run in fanless mode. If the loading condition is below 20%, the fan in the power supply can remain off for silent operation during idle or low powered computing activities. Other great features inherited from previous Strider series includes ±3% regulation, powerful single +12V rail, 24/7 continuous power output, and multiple PCI-E cables. For those looking to build highly efficient systems in small footprints, the Strider Platinum is definitely the best choice.

SilverStone Technology Inc. continues to focus attention on providing compact power supply solutions. Earlier this year we looked at the SilverStone SX700-LPT, which packed 700 watts into an extended SFX chassis. In this review we are going to check out SilverStone’s ST85F-PT, which packs 850W into a compact ATX enclosure. While the typical 850W ATX power supply measures 180mm (7.1”) deep, the Strider Platinum Series 850W unit is housed in a 140mm chassis (5.5”). This results in a power density of 471W per liter.

The Strider Platinum Series now includes four compact models, the ST55F-PT (550W), ST65F-PT (650W), ST75F-PT (750W) and ST85F-PT (850W), which SilverStone claims are the smallest fully modular ATX power supplies with 80 Plus Platinum efficiency. Honey I shrunk the PSU, 700W of SFX-L sized power from Silverstone

Subject: Cases and Cooling | August 24, 2016 - 06:43 PM |
Tagged: SX700-LPT, small form factor, SFX, 80 Plus Platinum, modular psu

Do you recall the new long playing version of the SFX PSU form factor; specifically Lee's review of the SilverStone SFX-L 700W PSU?  Perhaps you have forgotten about the new form factor of PSU that offers similar cooling to a full ATX PSU but takes up a lot less room.  Not to fret, [H]ard|OCP is here to remind you with a fresh review of the PSU.  Their tests revealed the same strengths as Lee's, perhaps not outstanding but certainly a very good choice for a PSU.   They did dock more points for the lack of an included adapter for ATX mounting, they are available but it does seem worth mentioning SilverStone's oversight.

"SilverStone has a new take on small form factor power supplies it is calling "SFX-L." This new form factor extends the standard SFX size by 30mm allowing SilverStone to install a quieter 120mm fan than the usual higher speed and noisier 80mm and 92mm fans. How does all this work out?"

SFX form factor cases and power supplies continue grow in popularity and in market share. As one of the original manufacturers of SFX power supplies, Silverstone Technology Co. is meeting demand with new products; continuing to raise the bar in the SFX power supply arena with the introduction of their new SX700-LPT unit.

SX700-LPT
(SX=SFX Form Factor, 700=700W, L=Lengthened, PT=Platinum certified)

SilverStone has a long-standing reputation for providing a full line of high quality enclosures, power supplies, cooling components, and accessories for PC enthusiasts. With a continued focus on smaller physical size and support for small form-factor enthusiasts, SilverStone added the new SX700-LPT to their SFX form factor series. There are now seven power supplies in the SFX Series, ranging in output capacity from 300W to 700W. The SX700-LPT is the second SFX unit to feature a lengthened chassis. The SX700-LPT enclosure is 30mm (1.2”) longer than a standard SFX chassis, which allows using a quieter 120mm cooling fan rather than the typical 80mm fan used in most SFX power supplies.

The new SX700-LPT power supply was designed for small form factor cases but it can also be used in place of a standard ATX power supply (in small cases) with an optional mounting bracket. In addition to its small size, the SX700-LPT features high efficiency (80 Plus Platinum certified), all modular flat ribbon-style cables, and provides up to 700W of continuous DC output (750W peak). The SX700-LPT also operates in semi-fanless mode and incorporates a very quiet 120mm cooling fan.

SilverStone SX700-LPT PSU Key Features:

•    Small Form Factor (SFX-L) design
•    700W continuous power output rated for 24/7 operation
•    Very quiet with semi-fanless operation
•    120mm cooling fan optimized for low noise
•    80 Plus Platinum certified for high efficiency
•    Powerful single +12V rail with 58.4A capacity
•    All-modular, flat ribbon-style cables
•    High quality construction with all Japanese capacitors
•    Strict ±3% voltage regulation and low AC ripple and noise
•    Support for high-end GPUs with four PCI-E 8/6-pin connectors
•    Safety Protections: OCP, OVP, UVP, SCP, OTP, and OPP
