CES 2018: SilverStone's Compact Strider Platinum 1000W and 1200W PSUs

SilverStone's Strider Platinum lineup now includes 1000 and 1200 watt models with a depth of only 140 mm. These are both fully modular ATX PSUs, and 80 Plus Platinum certified.

The compact 140 mm depth is popular with small form-factor builds - and sometimes a requirement for a fully modular PSU like this depending on the enclosure. The power density is obviously getting really high for 2018, and 1200W is likely the highest you will find at 140 mm.

Pricing and release dates have not been revealed just yet for either power supply.

FSP's Hydro PTM 750W Platinum takes Gold

A few months back Lee reviewed the FSP Hydro PTM 750W modular PSU and gave it a Gold Award and recently [H]ard|OCP have done the same.  There is a lot to like about this PSU, from it's $115 MSRP to the 10 year long warranty, making it a solid choice to power a system. The interior components are all top notch so you should expect this PSU to last throughout the warranty period and the 80 PLUS Platinum rating ensures efficiency.  The marketers did manage to slap a VR Ready sticker on the PSU but don't let that discourage you.

"While FSP is still not a widely known brand name when it comes to enthusiast computer power supplies, it has actually been becoming fairly consistent in designing, manufacturing, and selling PSUs in North America that have not only held their own, but also been impressive products. How does this new member of its Hydro series hold up?"

CES 2018: EVGA Shows 2200W 80 Plus Platinum Power Supply

Positioned casually amist the current and upcoming power supply lineup at EVGA's suite at CES is the SuperNOVA 2200 P2, which offers a mere 2200 watts of 80 Plus Platinum power with 183.3A from the +12V rail. I will let that sink in for a moment.

DSC_0711.jpg

Naturally this level of power will require more than the typical 110V mains power in the US, with 220V required. It seems safe to assume that the biggest customer of such a PSU at this point would be the mining community, making the need for 220V a non-issue for the dedicated miners among us (who needs an electric range in the kitchen, anyhow?).

DSC_0709.jpg

We didn't get specifics on release date or pricing, but this is an impressive piece of hardware - especially considering the Platinum efficiency.

2-Banner-1.jpg

FSP’s new Hydro PTM lineup is part of their top-tier Premium Series and currently includes three models: 750W, 650W, and 550W. We will be taking a detailed look at the 750W Platinum model in this review. FSP Group Inc. has been designing and building PC power supplies under their own brand since 2003. Not only do they market power supplies under their own FSP name but they are the OEM for many other big name brands. Now you might be thinking “Hydro” refers to water-cooling but like we saw last year with the Hydro G series power supplies, the Platinum Series all use conventional air cooling. The Hydro apparently refers to the “Hydro Dynamic Bearing” used in the cooling fan (more commonly referred to as a FDB – Fluid Dynamic Bearing).

3-FSP-PTM-750.jpg

FSP developed the Hydro Platinum Series with an advanced thermal layout design. The units come with all modular cables and are certified to comply with the 80 Plus Platinum efficiency criteria. The power supplies are designed to deliver tight voltage regulation with excellent AC ripple and noise suppression. All Hydro PTM Series power supplies incorporate a quiet 135mm cooling fan and they come backed with a 10-year warranty!

Seasonic's PRIME family now features a 650W Platinum model

Subject: Cases and Cooling | September 27, 2017 - 02:35 PM |
Tagged: seasonic, PRIME PSU, 80 Plus Platinum, 650W

Lee has reviewed several of Seasonic's PRIME PSUs, focusing on the higher wattage models and awarding high honours for the models tested.  Not everyone needs a kilowatt class PSU however, which makes [H]ard|OCP's review of the new 650W member of the PRIME family interesting.  Externally the PSU is indistinguishable from the higher wattage models, it is only in the interior that you can see the differences.  Those differences do not have an effect on the quality of power provided by this PSU, as [H] describes it as the best 650W model they have seen to date.  The price is a little higher than other 650W PSUs, making the 850W model a better deal for some.  Drop by to get the full story.

"This time we review a small Seasonic rated at 650 watts, but this one is part of its flagship Prime series with Platinum rated efficiency. That means, less heat, less noise, and a lower cost of operation over time. So, is the PRIME 650 Platinum PSU worthy of Seasonic's flagship status? We will surely find out."

Here is what Seasonic has to say about their new FOCUS Plus 550W Platinum PSU:

The fully modular, 80 PLUS® Platinum rated FOCUS+ Platinum 550 watt unit is based on the DC to DC Converter Design and its electric performance characteristics are impressive with their tight voltage regulation. These power supplies use high temperature Japanese capacitors to ensure stability under extreme conditions. Besides its stability and remarkable output characteristics, this unit has the highest power density in its class. Silence enthusiasts will appreciate the Seasonic Hybrid Silent Fan Control system that is the industry’s first three-phased advanced thermal control to achieve optimal balance between silence and cooling.

Due to its small form factor the FOCUS PLUS power supply is a great solution for those who want to build smaller systems and care about the airy arrangement inside their computer case. The fully modular cables are easy to install, save space inside the computer case and provide ample customization and upgrading possibilities at the same time. This mid power range power supply is not only small, but mean too. It boasts the highest power density in its class and it also has remarkable stability and output characteristics during operation.

FSP releases a trio of Platinum PSUs

FSP Group have just released three new 80 Plus Platinum Hydro PTM modular PSUs, in 750W, 650W and 550W models.  The Hydro branding comes from the fluid dynamic bearings in the 135mm fan which they have optimized for quiet operation.

Hydro PTM-750W_002.jpg

The 750W model has a pair of 4+4 power plugs for X299 users, the other two models will not though all will use ribbon cables to help you with cable management.  Internally you will find Japanese industrial grade electrolytic caps and a single 12V rail which will provide higher quality power than multiple rail designs.   All models will come with a 10 year warranty.

Seasonic's PRIME series of PSUs goes Platinum

Subject: Cases and Cooling | June 26, 2017 - 06:32 PM |
Tagged: Seasonic PRIME, 850W, 80 Plus Platinum, modular psu

It was almost a year ago that Lee reviewed the Seasonic PRIME 750W Titanium PSU; today it is [H]ard|OCP who has a review of a cousin of that PSU.  The Seasonic PRIME 850W Platinum PSU is a new addition to the PRIME family, bearing the same 12 year warranty as its relatives as well as the single 12V rail design and physical Hybrid button.  As [H] have already reviewed the previous 850W PRIME model, the newcomer has some big shoes to fill.  It comes very close to doing so, as you can see in their full review.

1496794935dtrk6eag20_2_9_l.jpg

"As is usual, Seasonic talks softly and carries a big stick. The biggest stick lately has been its Prime series power supplies. Today's Prime comes to us touting excellent efficiency, a fully modular design, tight output voltage, and a quiet noise profile supplied by a fluid dynamic bearing fan. Does Seasonic continue its current reign?"
