The Western Digital Black 1TB HDD can be yours for a smidgen over
$100, or about 10 cents a gigabyte if you would prefer to think of it that way.  This is a Black drive, which puts performance above long lifetime or low power consumption and with an average transfer rate of 86MB/sec in OCIA's testing, it certainly seems to qualify as a high end platter based HDD.  Drop by to see the actual benchmark numbers.

Western Digital releases enterprise class 2TB RE4-GP series drive

Western Digital has released their new RE4 series of the Green Power line of hard drives.  The new release advances the RE series to include 2TB capacity, 64 MB cache, and dual processors, and also feature advanced RAID specific features such as TLER (Time Limited Error Recovery) and RAFF (Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward).

Back in February, Allyn was writing his first review for PC Perspective, a review of the new Intel X-25 M SSDs.  As he tested their various speeds, he began noticing some odd behaviour from the shiny new SSDs.  At the start of the testing the drives were incredibly fast, but over time the performance degraded significantly.

The new Seagate Barracuda 7200.12s have a few advantages over the previous generation.  There is no bad firmware to give this generation a bad name, as well they have made a move to 500GB platters for this generation.  Bjorn3D's testing showed that the move did not result in a clear improvement; speed for burst and read seems to have decreased, while the write speed has increased.  On the other hand, once in a RAID environment the drives showed improvements from the previous generation, in addition to needing
