Viking Modular Solutions is a producer of various lines of DIMM and SSD products. With that, they have combined the power of a SandForce SSD with the packaging of a DIMM to create the SATADIMM. This little guy takes its power (and space) from a standard DIMM slot and connects to the system via a standard SATA 3Gb/sec. This makes it perfect for enterprise applications (think 1U server rack-mount chassis). Come check out this innovative solution!

The next generation Indilinx controller is not going to be here for a little while yet, so in the meantime they've released a new version of the already on the market Barefoot controller, though AnandTech is quick to point out you need to buy a new drive to see it in action you cannot simply do a hardware flash to upgrade existing SSDs. The review shows performance improvements, especially when dealing with incompressible formats
as those types of files hamstring th

Introduction, Packaging and Specifications
Today Allyn looks at the next iteration of the OCZ RevoDrive - the x2! This new card opens up two more channels of throughput over the RevoDrive, demonstrating how well the SI RAID solution can scale with quad-Sandforce units behind it.

When Allyn reviewed the OCZ Ibis with the proprietary HSDL to allow speeds faster than SATA 6Gb/s can handle, the biggest plus was indeed the read speeds of almost 700GB/s but the biggest negative (apart from price) was the propriety cabling. AnandTech looks at the new RevoDrive x2 which uses a PCIe slot and promises the same performance ... and unfortunately a similarly high price.

SSDs do offer a speed bonus at the cost of an extreme storage density hit, not to mention the price attached which adds up quickly when you are building RAID-5 boxes, let alone some of the other intricate RAID setups possible. One way to bring the performance of your RAID array up is to look at 15K RPM SAS HDDs like the
Seagate Cheetah 15K 3.5.

As Allyn shows in the video version of this weeks podcast, even the mighty Drobo is unsure what to do with Western Digital's Caviar Green 3TB HDD; it might recognize it but it cannot use it. There are ways to use it as The Tech Report proves in their review, a UEFI BIOS helps but there are ways to make the HDD work even with the more common AHCI controller.&nbs
